So in the coffee shop in the my college's library, where I work, we're very fond of making shift playlists. Recently, Dishwalla's "Counting Blue Cars" appeared on such a playlist of a friend and co-worker, and instantly I found myself fighting the urge to cry/ask my seventh grade teacher to coffee.
I'm not sure if this song is really just great, overplayed, hackneyed and immature, or is one of those songs that gets into your consciouness at some seemingly pivotal point in life and freezes time.
At any rate, I've got good memories.

Billboard's #1 Modern Rock song of 1996. Yes it has that nasty habit of sticking in your head, but I like the vocals and the songwriting. It was also one of two songs within a year to describe God in a female form - the other being Joan Osborne's "One Of Us".

One of the most overplayed songs of the decade?
It's great, but 'Charlie Brown's Parents' and 'Give' are better.

I bought this on cassette single back in '96. I don't know where it is now. While the acoustic version is OK, I prefer the original.

i like it... how clever for the song to refer to GOD as "She". ;)

It didn't do much for me when it was big but I grew to like it later on so this is one of those songs that I regret not charting at the time.

It's a decent song but I prefer all of their other singles to this.

I like the acoustic version better. I also like the acoustic version better because it sounded more appropriate for the song's lyrics. When I heard the original version, I thought it was a little too hard-sounding for the nature of this song.
