One of those 1980s classics that did not chart int he Top 40 in the US but unforgotten anyway! I heard this in South Dakota and in Minneapolis, but not in England (not even once). But I heard "Radio Musicola" over there but it flopped missing the UK Top 40. Should have been a bigger hit by far. I guess the real good news for this guy as far as having any US success is that he took a song that he did not sing on into the Top Ten seven years later. It was "The One & Only" by Cheney Hawks (a one hit wonder as well).
Hot 100 : #46 UK : #4 1984

This song is amazing, and the video was pretty cool too.
"The One and Only" was also Kershaw's biggest hit in the UK, his only #1. Shame Hawkes didn't have much more success - he's a talented singer-songwriter.

I used to listen to the albums "Human Racing" and "The Riddle" a lot years ago. They both were very good 1980's UK pop albums.

Good song! It’s been played at least once as an optional extra on American Top 40 the 80s.

"Wouldn't It Be Good" is actually one of, if not my #1 favorite of song of all time. I adore it and I adore Nik Kershaw. I'm a sucker for a good 80's new wave ballad and this one is just perfection. The melody of its chorus is incredibly wistful, Nik Kershaw's vocal performance expressive, the lyrics on point, that horn section in the bridge gorgeous (and probably one of my favorite melodic pieces of all time). The song is everything. I hate that while this is Nik's highest peaking song in the US, it didn't even peak inside the Top 40 really! Eugh!! It was a hit in Europe though and Australia as well I think. This was actually Nik's second single ever, and it was thanks to its success that his first single, "I Won't Let The Sun Go Down On Me" was re-released and actually charted reaching a high peak (#2) in the UK.
Here's the music video, which is hella weird:
Here's Nik's performance of it on the historic Live Aid in 1985:
Here's the extended version, which is worth a listen for the instrumental breakdown (that synth line!! 💓) and his ad-libs at the end:

THIS. Absolutely agree. This is in my top 5 of pop tunes, if not my number 1. Great tune, beautiful lyrics. One of those songs that just hits you to the core. How this didn't hit the Top 40 I will never understand. There was a great acoustic version of this on a subsequent album. If you like this song, there is a great acoustic version of this in concert w/ Howard Jones

I like this song. Another 80s song that was in a PSP/PS2 game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories.

I love this record! Nik Kershaw had a massive hit in the U.K. with "Wouldn't It Be Good" in 1984. It spent 3 weeks at No.4. He famously performed it on Wembley Stadium for Live Aid in 1985. And he has also performed it a few times with Howard Jones. A karaoke favourite, for sure!
