The New Age genre was made for songs like this. Over the radio in 1991 and surprisingly it still got a noticeable amount of pop airplay until the stupidity wave a few years ago. I first heard this on Open House Party in 97 or 98 and then on the Pure Moods CD and I was instantly hooked. The version they played on Open House Party has some dude speaking over it with lines from Genesis. Every time I hear it, this song pulls me in and if I'm in a susceptible mood then it can easily put me in a trance.

The song seems "gothic" to me as I've been told just as well. Anyway never liked it anyway, quite boring at the same time.

This song is a classic pure and simple. It was very unusaully to see this song do so well. I believe it went top ten didn't it ???

It went top five on Billboard (maybe exactly #5). I loved the song. It was rather unusual, but it was the beat and not the chants that hooked me in.

I like this song a lot. It might be the last completely foreign language(s) song to hit the Top 40. I can't remember if "No Tango Dinero" had any English or not.

Love it!
Rick Dees used to have someone translate the opening lyrics: "Spend some money on me and give me your credit cards."

In early 1991, I remember hearing this song on "Open House Party" and not remembering the title of it. Then, when I was listening to the Rick Dees show on March 16, I fell asleep during it and when I woke up briefly, that song was playing. I thought that he was playing an extra, since it hadn't been on the last time I'd listened (I was on choir tour at the start of the month, so I missed it on the 2nd and 9th). It wasn't until I finally got the papers that I realized that it was indeed a song in the countdown.

It wasn't until I finally got the papers that I realized that it was indeed a song in the countdown. What papers? The R&R papers. Since I knew I was going to miss the countdown for the weekends of March 2 and March 9, I ordered the R&R newspapers (or magazine, or whatever you want to call it) for those dates.

I remember hearing this song stopped in the middle of a CHR station's morning show when the song first came out. The man of the morning show, Ken, said alright - now we are going to hear the conversation that was taped when Christy(the sidekick) was in the boss's office yesterday - then came the part with the heavy breathing and groans. :)

This song was bad when it first came out, and it's even worse now. Enigma were always something of a one-trick pony, be it with Gregorian Chants, World Music or Prog-Rock leanings.

I love it! I haven't listened to their first album in such a long time but my sister has it so I should do just that one of these days. I know a bit of french but I never bothered looking for the lyrics to this or trying to translate it whenever I heard it. The instrumental and french vocals just make this song sound just so myterious, hot and exotic LOL.

I absolutely loved this one back in the day along with the rest of the album that this came from. The spoken vocals by Sandra (Michael Cretu's then wife) were so sensual and hypnotic. The production had an eerie, mysterious feel to it. I prefer the song within the 'suite' of "The Principles Of Lust" from the album.

Awesome song. It would be cool to see radio accept a fully foreign language track again. It's really the beat that sells, though. I bought their hits collection because I also liked the sound of a song that was playing while I had an MRI scan years ago.
I remember watching NTD on YouTube to check but the verses are mostly in English.

This is a classic. I feel a lot of people know this as a piece, without having much clue to the act or even the song name.

One of my all-time favorite 1990s songs and is the song that introduced me to the New Age genre. I still occasionally heard it on defunct WNUA smooth jazz when I was younger. It was also played on B96 when it first came out. On a side note, I remember that Pure Moods CD commercial.
