They were pretty much hit or miss for me, although Hell Bent For Leather, Stained Class, British Steel, and the album this is from, Screaming For Vengeance (I guess that's what? their 4 good albums?) all contained some great tracks.
I'm a little hesitant to even call this Heavy Metal, I guess this was pretty hard at the time it was released in 1982, and it did look funny even hitting the pop chart for a couple months. I think it peaked in the mid 60s which was probably an acheivement in itself. But there is just no denying that this is just a flat out great rocker of a song, great crunchy guitar riffs, Rob Halford's menacing voice, "I'm on the top, as long as the music's LOUD!" Just the intro to this song, with it's chugging rhythm guitar over a great set of drum bashing (reminiscent of Foreigner's intro to Hot Blooded, but more amped up, and I'm sure there are a ton of other songs that begin this way too) signaled that this was gonna be a classic rocker to deal with.
I guess if you're familar with that scene in Risky Business where Tom Cruise is dancing around to "Old Time Rock And Roll" this would be me except with this song and not the Bob Seger track. not taking away from Bob Seger, I love most of his mid 70s-early 80s stuff, risky business song not included, plus I needed something heavier in my late teen years when I was getting ready to go out.
Anyone else appreciate this rocker or is this being filed under "dead thread?"

Very good song. I never really got into them much, but I did like this song. They were heavy metal. It's just that heavy metal has changed.
The bands I liked back then were almost all pop, but I liked classic rock at that point like the Who and Led Zepplin.
This song will always be a staple from those years.

I'd be reluctant to call it heavy metal, too. There's too much melody.
Not one of my favorites but it's pretty good. I remember reading somewhere that the lead singer once brought his boyfriend on stage, introducing him as such. I always thought that was interesting, but it was at a time when a number of celebrities, including Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, were rumored to be bisexual. I never knew whether to believe the story or not.
Judas Priest was never one of my favorite bands so I never knew that much about them. I do remember one kick-ass record by them, though: a live cover of Fleetwood Mac's The Green Manalishi.

whenever I hear this song start, I think it's gonna be "How Can I Refuse" by Heart; not that I mind--I love the "coming for you!" near the end........

And as much as I love that old school Heart stuff like "Barracuda" and "Crazy On You" and "Straight On" (which was I guess the hybrid track from their early stuff to their second phase), this is STILL prolly one of my 5 or so favorite Heart songs. Damn, what a great pop rocker they put out. It reminds me of Cheap Trick's career and then the way they threw "Tonight It's You" into their catalog. And I can write a good long essay on how much TI'sY means to me in my music listening life, but that should be another thread, I think I already created one for it, either on this board's earliest stages or near the tail end of R&R's boards.

This was Judas Priest's only US chart singles reaching only #67 on the Hot 100 in 1982

whenever I hear this song start, I think it's gonna be "How Can I Refuse" by Heart Me too. The only difference though is that I LOVE the Heart song, whereas this, IMO, is crap.

One of the few 80s hard rock/hair metal/glam tunes that I like.

Love both songs and never ever heard the similarity until right now. Pretty spot on. Priest came out a year before Heart's song.

I never noticed the similarity before between this and Heart! Rob Halford also has a crazy awesome voice. I was surprised when I heard this show up in a scene with Kate Winslet in HBO's Mare of Easttown.
