I don't think this has been posted yet.
One of my all time favorites. It topped the chart in 1981 for 5 weeks. It even won Kim Record of The Year at the Grammys.

Did even better on the Hot 100, spending 9 non-consecutive weeks at #1 (interrupted by the first Stars On 45 "Medley"), and wound up #1 for the year.
I like this song. Even better was a parody single by comedian Bruce Baum, "Marty Feldman Eyes".

I think Urban radio in Phoenix, AZ gave it few spins as well. Anyway it was an okay song.

Love the hand-clapping (or whatever it is). Also, a cool phrase, "Bette Davis Eyes."

This was the jam back in the day. I loved it and her raspy voice.

Love the hand-clapping (or whatever it is). Do you mean the part that starts in the second verse, goes something like "PSH-PSH! PSH! PSH-PSH! PSH!"? That's a synthesizer, but I don't think it's supposed to be simulated hand-claps. Just a unique drum beat, I guess.

^^ Perhaps... depends on your market...
Still sounds great on the air... even our JACK FM here in L.A. plays this - heard it on the way home from work last night...

I like it. There's an aircheck of the original 92 WKTU (not 103.5 KTU) with Al Bandiero that played this song near the beginning:

A long time ago, on a road trip, I sang this entire song using my best Kim Carnes impression.
Years later I came out to one of my friends who was in the car, and she said that was the moment she knew I was gay.
So.

This is one of the best songs ever. I never tire of it. Love that Jesse Langseth sung it on Idol, although she pretty much copied the Gwyneth Paltrow version (which was a HUGE hit in Australia). Go figure!

One of the best songs i've ever heard. Gwenyth Paltrow & Brandon Flowers (of The Killers) have done some great covers of this.

It's a pretty nice song. That dreamy feel of the production is what I like best on it.

This has always been one of my favorite lyrics. Truly great songwriting.
She's ferocious/precocious and she knows just what it Takes to make a pro blush

This is such a great song. The production is so beautiful and Kim's vocals mesh so well with it. I also love the Brandon Flowers cover of it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzj126so6mw

Nice classic! The production is wonderful and Kim's voice is great here. I always thought Kim always sounded like a female Rod Stewart which is not a bad compliment.

In my market, I heard this whenever there was 80s flashbacks on my AC/Hot AC stations (Lite FM 93.9, 100.3, and 101.9 The Mix). Decent song but not my favorite 80s song.

40 years ago today, "Bette Davis Eyes" by Kim Carnes scored its 9th non-consecutive and final week at No.1 on the Hot 100 Singles chart. It was No.1 for 5 weeks then it was interrupted for one week by "Stars on 45" before it returned to No.1 for another 4 weeks. "Bette Davis Eyes" was the first single from her 6th album "Mistaken Identity" and won the Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. It was MASSIVE!!! Billboard magazine named it the biggest hit of 1981. I love the synth work, the hand claps, everything about it.
