This is probably my favourite song of hers, ever. It's so irresistably happy, it never fails to cheer me up. Janet's voice is no knockout, but there's an incredible warmth to it, and this song demonstrates it perfectly. She sounds so genuinely happy that it makes you feel happy too. Or at least me.

Yup, her best. Don't really care for anything after this.

Yup, her best. Don't really care for anything after this. And a sales #1 in Canada! Peaked at #2 airplay.

I like it, but it's probably not even in my Top 20 favorite Janet songs.

I like it, but it's probably not even in my Top 20 favorite Janet songs. I'd agree with you Rebirth. "Runaway" is a great song but it is far from her best.

It's from a great time in music for me! Because it came from the 95/96 changeover, everything from that time is great for me! I love this song too! It was higher than 'Fantasy' on both yearend charts too. I finally got the 'Design Of A Decade' CD used for $5 (still in its wrapping so it was new!) late in the Summer this year (2003). This song went for adds on MT40 just a few weeks back!

I love her happy songs! This and "Doesn't Really Matter", I consider happy songs. They aren't that great, but I love them simply because they're fun.. if that makes sense

Janet's music is patchy for me, but sometimes she writes absolute classics. I absolutely love how "Together Again" takes a terribly sad event and puts such an optimistic spin on it. I find that song incredibly moving.

I was absolutely so sad when Janet peaked at #2 on CHR with "Runaway." I thought it was a better song than Mariah's "Fantasy" which was at #1 for multiple weeks. I really liked "Fantasy," but it just wasn't quite good to my ears as "Runaway" IMO.
I wanted "Fantasy" to fall out of the top spot so bad but it just wouldn't let Janet get through. That was one of my most frustrating times while following the pop charts.

A classic! This song was what turned me from a casual Janet fan into a BIG Janet fan as I bought DOAD and realised how brilliant she was. It's very happy without being annoying or cheesy. The video is excellent too. This used to get played on the radio a lot and I used to love listening to it... my mum used to always comment on how she found the song annoying only because of Janet giggling at the end.

Yup, her best. Don't really care for anything after this. Agreed. This was the last song from her tolerable era.

This is definitely a sunny, feel-good song, and I love it to death.
Every time I go to Carowinds (Paramount amusement park in Charlotte) I hear it once or twice. Actually, they love playing Janet's earlier "breezy" songs (Love Will Never Do, Escapade, Runaway)

After getting into Janet with her janet album and going back for Rhythm Nation, this was the turning point for me being infatuated with Janet and her music. After this, it was a long downward slide to casual fandom.
This song was way too happy. Every janet single was better than this, and most, if not all, of the Rhythm Nation singles were better than this, too. Plus, the video was ghastly. Her hair was pulled back in that bun on top of her head, and that hideous chain that connected her nose ring to her earring. WTF! Not to mention her hopping around from place to place all over the globe. What kind of cheesy concept is that?
And I don't know/remember if she'd been doing this before, but this song is the first of 3 that I know of where she leaves a "screw-up" ad-lib toward the end of the song; the other two being "Doesn't Really Matter" and "All for You". I find that very, very obnoxious, and I wish she'd quit doing stuff like that.#nosmileys

This became her 6th song to peak at #2 on the R&R chart. And if I remember correctly, it wasn't the first time she was shut out of #1 by Mariah Carey.

And if I remember correctly, it wasn't the first time she was shut out of #1 by Mariah Carey. You remember correctly. In fact, it wasn't the first time she was shut out by Mariah Carey for 6 consecutive weeks! In 1993, "Dreamlover" blocked "If" for that long.

On either this message board, someone said the success of this song affected the chart run of "Runaway" by the Corrs (since radio stations apparently didn't want to play two songs called "Runaway" too close together). That sounds logical; since Janet Jackson was already an established CHR artist, stations played her much more and pretty much ignored the song of the same title by the Corrs.
