I thought this was a great, great single. Really catchy and memorable. It didn't deserve to tank at all. I hate Radio's current reluctance towards anything but a lead single from artists of her ilk (See also Jewel, Dido, Sarah McLachlan)

This is one of my favorite Alanis songs ever. I cannot believe it did so bad. It was catchy, the lyrics were great and easy to understand, and the sound was very radio-friendly. I think a lack of promotion was the downfall of this and the rest of the Under Rug Swept singles. Let's hope that the singles from So-Called Chaos are promoted better and have more success.

This is definitely her most overrated single ever. I think it got exactly what it deserved by flopping.

I agree, this song is just so mediocre. It's kind of like the people from the boards going crazy over Jewel's singles since "Break Me", although almost none of those are that good.

I really like this song, th verse could be more exciting though. Now she made a mistake in releasing a song almost exactly like it, "Everything." "Everything" just sounds like a blander version of "Precious Illusions."

"Everything" just sounds like a blander version of "Precious Illusions." I agree. It's like "PI" without the catchy chorus.

It's alright. I loved that album though... there were much better songs. I agree that PI is overrated on this board.

My favourites were:
1. Hands Clean 2. That Particular Time and You Owe Me Nothing In Return
Precious Illusions would be in the middle if I ranked all the songs.

I remember doing payola deals for this when I was payola-ing Angela Via's "Papi Chulo."

To be honest, I thought "Under Rug Swept" was a terrible album. I only liked the two American singles.

I haven't listened to the CD in a while as I find myself throwing on JLP or MTV whenever I want an Alanis fill but when it first came out, I liked it, then I realized it wasn't good. PI was one of the good songs on it (and prolly her biggest hit for me from the CD) along with Surrendering, Hands Clean, That Particular Time and Narcissus and prolly Flinch. If I listened to the album now, I'd prolly like it again.

I still remember KIIS-fm gave this one a try and I was in the car when I heard it.. it was so boring, I had to change the station. I didn't see why everyone getting moist in their pants for this.
"Hands Clean" was sooo much better.

This song was pretty good. The video was innovative and edgy and it definitely deserved more success.

Does anyone know if there was a third single from the Under Rug Swept album?

Surrendering was a radio single in Canada.
This shouldn't have been left off of 'The Collection'. One of the many huge mistakes made by that compilation of Alanis songs.

Perhaps my least favorite Alanis song ever. I just thought it was boring. One of the songs on Feast on Scraps should have been on Under Rug Swept in place of this one.

This came on today while going through my streaming library and the bassline goes HARD!!
I'm surprised at how badly this did following "Hands Clean" which had performed quite well after the SFIJ singles didn't do much. However, if I were label staff, I would have advocated for "So Unsexy" or "21 Things I Want in a Lover" as the second single and this should have come later.
The video is cool too. Alanis has an amazing videography for how infrequently she releases music (and lack of budget on later albums)
