While it's not my favorite of hers, I love it.

I don't think most people realize how much of the lyrics were borrowed from this song.

This is a great track. It's definitely dated and could not have come out in a different time period, but it's still fun.

^^Thanks for posting the original song. Sounds like a 60s tune...

Yes, this was based on "Sepheryn"- the writers were credited from the start. :) I believe Madonna added a new verse (in place of the one in "Sepheryn"), and, of course, the melody, sound and other stuff were altered to suit M. A similar scenario to "Don't Tell Me," which began as a different-sounding Joe Henry song called "Stop."
This remains one of my favorite Madonna recordings. So epic and life-affirming.

If you're every driving at 70 MPH and this comes up, you reach Nirvana.

^It's OK- not everything garners universal acclaim. But this sure got plenty of it. :)
What exactly do you hate about it? back when it was out, a couple people I knew thought it sounded "obnoxious." lol

It's all over the place to me. I don't care for the vibe & I'm not keen over the production. The one thing I admire about the song was her vocal performance. This & 'Beautiful Killer' (the Austin Powers song) sounds similiar & I don't like either track.

^Yah. "I'm a Sinner" is \track that has relations to "Beautiful Stranger" and "Amazing." I don't hear any real connection between "Ray of Light" and "Beautiufl Killer."
M's performance of "Ray of Light" on Oprah was an epic moment for this epic track. It had a futuristic echoing effect on her mic, which only added to the glory. You can see how proud of herself she is, when she lifts her arms in the air, @ 4:10 or so, in triumph. That, and the song itself is so damn life-affirming and celebratory.

This randomly came up on my shuffle today. It's still as energetic as ever, but it's kind of humorous how dated it sounds today, as does pretty much the whole album now that I think about it. It sounded so fresh at the time of its release, but Orbit's bleeps and drum loops are locked in that time period because the trip-hop movement that this project drew most of its sonic influences from never stuck around after the turn of the millennium. Her other 90s albums have aged much better due to the more prominent R&B & Urban influences. It's a shame she decided to abandon the fuller type of singing she utilized on this project later on.

I never liked this song! Even then I prefered Substirute for love or many others from the album than this I don't like the video either ...

This was a nice change of pace for her. I think it’s one of her more challenging songs to perform live.

This is still a favorite of mine.
I love the Sasha Twilo mix from the vinyl single and the Richie Santana mix which came out a year or so after the song was originally a single.

I never liked this song and is one of my least-favorite Madonna songs. The part in the middle where she starts to scream is so off-putting. However, I hated the music video even more as seeing a woman pushing 40 out there clubbing with the sped up camera acting like she's still in her 20s always looked weird to me as I was a pre-teen then. Of course, I'm starting to push 40 myself. I'm starting to feel old.

I don't really listen to this as much as when I was younger, but I still think the video had a great concept. I remember seeing this on Vh-1 alot. I miss those days so much.
