Underperformer or not, this was an important moment in her career and one of her signatures.
I didn't like it very much during it's release, but time has been kind to it. Like it way more now. It kills in the club.

This remains one of my favourite Christina singles (if not my absolute favourite).

Hard to believe this song only stalled at #42. With such a huge, memorable bop like this, it should have at least peaked in the top ten.

Didn't like this song and is probably my least favorite from her (referring to the album/single version). I heard a dance remix that was played on defunct Energy 92.7/92.5 in the early 2000s which was better than the album/single version. Tracy Young Club edit www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJVzrnPps1g

This song is still a jam to this day. Great lead single from her best album.

I don't dislike it, but then I don't like it either nor is it something I'll seek out to listen. One thing I will say, years later when I was old enough/interested to follow the charts and found out its Hot 100 peak I was shocked. I remember seeing the video a lot back in the day and thinking all this time the song had been a hit.

I'm all for the video. The song, well I remember giving it a C at first, then liking it a little less after awhile, but now, it's near the top of her best list. I give it about a C+ now because I hate the unnecessarily long intro and the descriptive adverbs that she barks in the chorus are obnoxious. Nice beat and perfect subject matter for her, though. The song flopped. The shade I- So many sly drags in one comment.

I remember watching "Making of the Video" and MTV's Diary during this era.
I remember incredibly drastic and in your face the Dirrty video was.

I loved this song from day one. It has so much energy. Most people I knew were super into it so I donโt know why US radio let the video kill it off. Our local top 40 station started to play it more 1.5-2 years after the fact? This peaked at num.14 at Top 40 in 6 weeks, but hung around until 20 weeks.

I always felt that the production was really clean on this, which is funny considering the song title. It's not messy or dirty at all. The beat always felt industrial, sharp, and clean cut which fit with the harder rap/hip hop influenced hits during this time period.
This seemed like a clean and easy comeback single that fit right with the times. It was probably her image that dragged this down considering all of the other singles were bigger hits from this project. Had she been a bit cleverer in the imaging of this it probably could have been a runaway hit not unlike a lot of Jennifer Lopez's hits during the same time.
I think Christina just needed to burn the bridge between herself and her pop image, and that's what led to this underperforming due to her overreaction to her teen pop era. I always felt Christina completely misunderstood that it was because of all of her success as a teen idol that Stripped (and every other album since) was even possible. It's a thing that annoys me about her. She's sort of her own worst enemy at times.
