Another one on PLJ today. This is perhaps the perfect example of the "textbook power ballad":
1. Acoustic guitar intro 2. Lyrics about being working class (see the factory that I worked) 3.Being in love and having that love overcome all (no matter what our friends might say, we'll find a way) 4. Easy to sing a long chorus 5. fast guitar playing solo 6. Ending with the "whoa's"
Its very formula, but I loved it when it came out when I was in 8th grade, and I love it now.

I agree with you Jimmy, certainly poser stuff for sure, but most of these power ballads were created by professional musicians who knew what to do with a hook and make it work. I was into mid 20s by the time this was out, but it worked for us as well as 8th graders for the most part.

I remember this was the Top song of 1989, according to the now defunct Gavin magazine. I remember, back around Christmas, 1990, I tuned into "Dave Sholin's Insider" for the year end show and thought the show had been dropped when I heard that song, but in its outro, Mr. Sholin said that it was the number one song of the previous year. I was surprised, for it only got to number two on R&R and wasn't really near the Top Ten (I don't think so anyway). The Top song of 1990 was sort of a surprise, too, "It Must Have Been Love" by Roxette. At least that had a Top Ten ranking in R&R.
My opinion of the song - I didn't like it very well at the time it was out, but now, hearing it takes me back to my senior year in high school.

It's not one of the really bad power ballads, but it's not great.

I liked "Heaven" but I much prefer, their balled off from their "Cherry Pie" cd, "I Saw Red".

This and I Saw Red probably will stand the test of time better than anything else by Warrant. I like this song, but not as well as I did when it was out.

"Heaven" isn't all that great. Warrant did have better songs like "I Saw Red" and "Down Boys".

Didn't this song have 2 slightly different versions? Yep... I think the vocals were re-recorded, I remember hearing both versions on the radio.

It's just an okay song to me. There are two versions of the song. Link 1Link 2I think the "greatest" hits on that second album were all re-recordings from 1999 (when they also recorded the new songs on it). That's not one of the versions that I remember hearing back in '89.

I also dig Heaven by The Chimes, came out in the early 90s.

Good ol' Scott Shannon and his "Pirate Radio classics"... you guys are lucky to have such a programming genius out there... "Heaven" was probably my 2nd favorite song of '89 to Martika's "Toy Soldiers"... Just love that one and I still spike it pretty frequently today...

It also peaked at #2 on Billboard and was kept out the top spot by Milli Vanilli and their song Girl I'm Gonna Miss You

Or "Heaven Is A Place On Earth" by Belinda Carlisle? Remember Deon Estus' "Heaven Help Us"? And who could forget "Heaven (Candlelight Mix)" also by DJ Sammy & Yanou? Great song - NOT!!!

That CD commercial " Monster Ballads" always comes to mind when it comes to this song. While I was never a big fan of hair bands/glam metal. This song has warmed up to me. Prefer it over "Cherry Pie" (don't like that one.) Remember, every bad boy has a soft side. music video www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrSdXtFJG20
