Since Jessica Simpson decided to butcher the original, what do you think of Berlin's #1 smash from the movie "Top Gun"? I have a love-hate relationship with it myself. It depends on what kind of mood I'm in as to whether I want to hear it or not.

haha this is so funny, I saw a clip of the video last night, after MuchNews mentioned Jessica Simpson's remake, and it was in my head for the remainder of the night.
I like it, good song...

The 1992 remix was not nessecary, it basiclly reaked. The movie verison was awesome it still gives me goose bumps at times.

UU-BRU Internet Radio [red]For Week Ending August 30, 1986[/red]
(Rank This Week, Last Week, Artist, Title)
21 24 Bob Seger - It's You 22 26 Fabulus Thunderbirds - Wrap It Up 23 27 Chaka Khan - Love Of A Lifetime 24 10 Bangles - If She Knew What She Wants 25 28 Luther Vandross - Give Me The Reason 26 31 Robert Palmer - I Didn't Mean To Turn You On 27 32 Missing Persons - I Can't Think About Dancing 28 37 Cyndi Lauper - True Colors [blue]29 30 Berlin - Take My Breath Away[/blue] 30 34 Anita Baker- Sweet Love
Despite being a national hit, TMBA did not climb any higher than #29 on my chart. Jessica Simpson's version isn't any better or worse than the original. I don't expect it to chart much higher (if at all) than Berlin in 1986.

Never a big fan of this song either. "The Metro" & "No More Words" were both #1 on my chart but I really didn't see the charm in this song. Jessica Simpson's version sounds ok but I think i just don't like the song..lol

This is one of the first pop songs I remember hearing. The synth is so huge it's almost excessive. But I love the song quite a bit. I can't wait to hear Jessica Simpson poop all over it, since there apparently wasn't anything good enough left on the original album to try to follow up the payolaed-all-the-way-to-number-one travesty that is "With You." So instead she gets to sustain her career with a whole new song that, ironically, is a cover!

It was just as good as the original and it would've been a Top 10 hit if the record company would've released a commercial single. The remix was done to promote Terri Nunn's solo debut, in fact the single was promoted as Berlin feat. Terri Nunn. How on Earth the record company thought that a remix of an old song would help sales of her debut is just beyond me. If they would've at least included on her album.

Shoot me now, but I like Jessica's version more. You deserve to be shot for saying that! ;) I hate Jessica's version. The Berlin song was good, but it quickly got played out.

This is a classic. Terri Nunn's ethereal vocal is sublime and the lyrics are vivid and evocative. Watching every motion in my foolish lover's game / On this endless ocean, finally lovers known no shame.
A well-deserved #1 smash for them.

Classic. Jessica Simpson's version was nice, but nothing absolutely beats the original!

Great song. That said, this isn't standard Berlin. Funny how some bands have their biggest hits with a song that doesn't really resemble their collection.

I really loved the 1991 remix too. It gave it a little something extra. I love the original. On the subject of Jessica's remake, I like only the Junior Vasquez remix. He went in a light House direction and it somehow managed to salvage her otherwise lackluster cover.

I saw the music video for "Take My Breath Away" tonight. I had forgotten how gorgeous this record is. Terri Nunn sings it with so much passion. The fact that the song is built around a synth riff amazes me.The last chorus and outro took me back to Italy. Great thing about music is that it takes you back in time. Anyway, massive No.1 hit in the U.K. and the U.S.

This is a great song. Terri Nunn sounds great. It's just not a Berlin song IMO.

Heard this on my way to school earlier today. I love it, specially the last chorus and outro. Sentimental bits of memories.
