This was an okay early track from the then-newcomer. This was a minor hit in the U.S. It did pretty good in the clubs. I liked this track a little. It wasn't special, but it does get you up on the floor a little.

Someone wrote in an Amazon review, "Don't listen to 'Dr. Beat' or else you'll never be able to get it out of your head." So I listened to a clip and it didn't stick. Then I got the album and after the first listen, it was stuck in my head for the rest of the day. And I couldn't even play any of the other songs from the album for a while. Addictive JAM!

This wasn't a minor hit, this was a bomb, missing the Hot 100 altogether. Although it was a huge international hit, hitting the Top 10 around the world.

I like this one, but don't love it. Good, but not as good as what was to come for Mrs. Estefan.

THIS was MSM's first single in the US, although it barely peaked at #15 on the Hot Dance Club Play chart. It was released in the second half of 1984 and in many Latin countries it was a minor-sized hit. Wiki says that it peaked at # 6 in the UK :o In a way, the current dance hit "Mr. Saxobeat" reminds me of this, not only because of the percussion but also when Alexandra talk-sings around 1:30. Of course the fact that a music chart blogger also says that Mr. Saxobeat reminds him of a Gloria Estefan song, sort of confirms my feelings WARNING: Typical cheesy fun 80s video below ;) Of course the song became popular again thanks to the mashup with Mylo's "Drop the Pressure" also known as "Dr. Pressure"

I like it- but then again, I like most of Gloria's 1984-90s output.

Not bad, but they've done better.
Hit #17 on the dance chart in 1984.

It was so so. Not my favorite from Gloria Estefan. The song is forgettable. I forgot what it sounded like until I listened the YouTube videos here and refreshed my memory LOL.

Heard this occasionally on those old 1980s 102.7 WBMX mixes that I listened to online. I always thought that "Congo" was Gloria's debut single. Nonetheless, I do like this song despite how cheese it may be.
