Who remembers the cult Halloween song "Monster Mash" by Bobby "Boris" Pickett and the Crypt Kicker Five? It was #1 in 1962 and #10 in 1973.

So I guess it was in 1973 that I became familiar with this song. Do you know what brought about the re-release? Was it used in a movie or something?

No, it wasn't a movie, but I guess it was the launch of oldies station WCBS FM 101 in NYC and the 1950's-early 1960's rock 'n roll music revival craze that helped the Monster Mash re-release in 1973 (like other 1940's-1950's-1960's songs in the 1970's did, including "Rock Around the Clock" by Bill Haley thanks to the "Happy Days" TV show, "Surfin' USA" thanks to the Beach Boys Endless Summer 2 record set complimation, and "Shaving Cream" by Benny Bell thanks to the Dr. Demento show).

It also charted at #91 in 1970.
I must admit, I find this rather boring, likely due to overplay.

I was thinking of this song the other day when I saw a Halloween display.

It was OK. It was played as an optional on AT40-the 70s this past week.

I really like this, even if it doesn't hold up well after repeated listens.

best Halloween song ever in my opinion.
also Fifth Harmony did a good cover of it a few years back.
