#4 on Billboard's Pop Chart.
This is another one-hit wonder for Taco. He also did another show tune rendition called Cheek To Cheek which is believed to be a Fred Astaire number in the 1930s during his "Top Hat" years. However that song was lost in oblivion. If you got the extended version of Ritz, you also could recognize a small montage of classics in the middle of it like White Christmas, There's No Business Like Show Business and Gotta Dance among others all coming from the '30s era. It's a catchy tune released back in late spring of 1983.

Another song I used to sing as a little kid. All these songs take me back. I still like it to this day.

This was a highly unusual pop hit, especially considering how very old the tune itself is. I cannot hear or even think of any version of this song but I'm reminded of Young Frankenstein and the side-splitting comic "performance" of POTR by the monster with a top-hat and cane. If you've never seen the picture you owe it to yourself to find a copy somewhere and watch it. The comic genius of Mel Brooks was at its high-water mark when he made this film, and it (along with The Producers - remember Springtime for Hitler? - and Blazing Saddles) represents the peak of his achievements.

Yeah, this song reminds me of when I was a youngester. My mom had the 45-single. I always thought it was an odd song.
"If you're blue and you don't know where to go, why don't you go to where fashion sits. Puttin' on the ritz."

This song reminds me of Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein.

I heard this on AT20 earlier this year. It was so-so.

Love this, probably more than is healthy. It's a great song anyway, but this rendition just puts it off the charts

"Ritz" is definitely my favorite song of the entire 1980s because it was so unique. Had the techno-pop quality that many '80s hits had, but very different at the same time.
There were 2 videos to this song - the original, and the censored version. The original uncensored version showed people in blackface. The censored version had a picture of Gary Cooper dubbed over the blackface singers when they sang the "super-dooper" part. So it was censored strictly for p.c./racial reasons.

One of my favorite songs of the 80s, love how off beat this is and is a great remake.

I loved this tune and bought the '45 when it was popular. I played the flip side and discovered a song that I felt was excellent as well, a little gem called "Living In My Dream World."
Check it out if you have the '45.

Interesting blend of show tunes and 80s Europop.
