I'm not all that big on a lot of funk, but this is one of my favorites of the genre. It's a funk classic.

I'm surprised that no one mentioned De La Soul's "Me Myself & I" which also hit number one on the R&B charts in 1989 and then scrapped the top 40 (due to sales mostly).

Absolutely stunning. The De La Soul song is a good example of how sampling or remaking a song/arrangement in general should be done. The level of instrumental wizardry achieved by the musicians in Funkadelic has seldomly been paralleled in the history of popular music (just listen to the fabolous guitar soloing here). Every bit of instrumention and each note is there for good reasons. The vocals and various vocal sounds augment the impact of the instrumental section in a perfectly freaky-psychedelic way. It all comes together as a fascinating sonic impression of what was going on in George Clinton's genius mind. A true classic to say the very least!

I love it.
Dr Dre sampled it for both "F*** Wit Dre Day" and Snoop Dogg's "Who Am I (What's My Name)."

I never knew the name of this song b/c I was young & always got confused w/who made it out of Georgie Clinton's two groups at that time; Parliment or Funkadelic. Lol.
A true funk classic. The production still sounds fresh many years later. I grew up to their music, so I could be a bit biased. Lol

One of the best 1970s R&B/Soul/Funk songs of all time and one of the best songs George Clinton ever did. I never get tired of this one.
