This song is my jam! This was the very first Mariah Carey song I heard. I loved the emotion and vulnerablity of this song. I think it still is her best R&B song she has made. The lyrics to this song are what got me. I also think this song showcases all facets of her voice really well. My favorite MC song.

"The Roof" is one of the highlights of the Butterfly album. I love the "Shook Ones" sample. After she did it, a whole list of people sampled the song. Sexy and sultry hip-hop song accompanied by her best video.

I *finally* saw the MTV video for the very 1st time this week (on the ATW DVD). I love it! Love! Love it! I was really feeling the whole "hooker look" and the melancholic lyrics. Haha!

It's easily one of my favorite Mariah songs, and the video is by far her best. This was one instance when she was sexy without trying to be.

This song is so well written it's not even funny! She paints such vivid pictures with her lyrics.

This song is so well written it's not even funny! She paints such vivid pictures with her lyrics. Completely agree! This is easily one of the best examples of her writing talents. And her vocal delivery was perfect for this song. [BTW, Stevie Wonder is using this "Shook Ones" sample for a remix of his new song... even he's following Mariah]

My favorite song off of the Butterfly album. "It wasn't raining yet, but it was dark & lovely/ A little misty on that warm November niii-iii-ght!"- Tell it Mimi!!!! A classic case of misheard lyrics! ;)

Out of all of her songs, I think this one paints such a clear picture lyrically. She looks so hot in this video. I think this is her sexiest video ever. Now do you prefer the Mobb Deep version or without them now is the question. I actually like both versions.

I was actually going to make a thread about this song. This is by FAR the best R&B song she's ever made. She'll never really top it. On par with "That's the Way Love Goes". The Mobb Deep version is the only remix I've ever heard where the rap added to the song w/o changing the beat. I would rather have this song @ #1 rather than "WBT".

I hated the whispery vocals at first, but I grew to appreciate its catchiness and the laid-back atmosphere of the song.

The lyrics are probably what makes the song so strong. Like someone said, the imagery she paints with the lyrics makes the song one of her most intimate and sexy tracks.

Hah, I have the video for this on my computer. It's really cool, especially the end when shes standing through the sun roof with all the rain and lights everywhere, lol.

I like to listen to this and Breakdown one after the other they work well together both of those songs. I love the vulnerability in this song.

LOVE it! There is something so eerie about this song. I don't why. Her best music video ever, I loved the part where she is eating a lollipop. lol And the scenes where she is standing in front of the city lights are the best.
Slant magazine ranked this #18 on their 100 Greatest Music Videos List.
