Not sure if this topic has been done before... This was a JAM that reached #4 in 1986.

This song reminds me of my first trip to Panama City Beach Florida. Great song.

Simply put: one of the most underrated singles of the 80s.

I dig it. they had a decent song from followup album, called "Should I Say Yes" that in its original version was pretty crappy but the 12 inch version sort of urban radioed it up a little and it sounded pretty good. of course you can't find it anywhere except for 12inch single which I'll have to convert to mp3 some year.

Simply put: one of the most underrated singles of the 80s. Underrated? The song went to #4 and was played on pretty much every Top 40 station in the country. Now the song "I Can't Wait" by Stevie Nicks - that was underrated.

I like it. But I like the followup "Point Of No Return" even better.

"Point Of No Return" was awesome too! Where did it peak on the pop chart?

Sounds pretty cool to me. I remember that this song was sampled back in '97 called Happiness by Vanessa Williams. But Nu Shooz made up of a real life married couple did put up some good jams back in the day. I wonder where they are now. I hope that they're not divorced.

"Point Of No Return" was awesome too! Where did it peak on the pop chart? That one missed R&R's pop chart, but hit #28 on the Hot 100 (#21 sales, #39 airplay).

No, it's by Nu Shooz.
Expose's "Point Of No Return" is a completely different song. Of their three dance songs that charted in 1987, that was the best, IMO.

I like it. But I like the followup "Point Of No Return" even better. ..and I play it as "Gold", quite often. I know that KDWB in up until the early 1990s played that as their gold as well.

I think I didn't make myself clear. OK, so it was a big hit then. But how many people remember the song now? I bet many more people remember Stevie Nicks's song better than Nu Shooz's. That's what I meant with underrated.

I think I didn't make myself clear. OK, so it was a big hit then. But how many people remember the song now? Probably a hand full. I still hear it in stores and resturants, they usually play the extended version or the simply the LP version. BTW that song was so well remembered that Vanessa Williams decided to use the song in her last big Urban hit "Happiness".

I hear this song on Hot AC stations occassionally. That's kind of odd since it's more rhythmic leaning.

Me too. Something about her voice (her name is Valerie Day) reminded me of Teena Marie.

And finally, I've been waiting for MONTHS for someone to post this on youtube...and it's so not living up to my expectations. In another way, though, it totally is. youtube.com/watch?v=QAPdaqz9qxcThe "Point of No Return" video is way better, though. Check out the old MTV footage...it's amazing that the font that MTV uses has been the same for like, 20 years. (Has it been the same from MTV's start? Does anyone know this? I don't know why I'm curious about that but I've been trying to find a lot of old MTV and VH1 footage. I think I've hit a new nerd low on this board in saying that.) youtube.com/watch?v=vuKv0HBb3Is

I remembered the shoes all moving around by themselves, I just wasn't sure which video it was from. Thanks for the memories. I first saw MTV sometime around 1983-84 and they were using that font... so I'd imagine it's been the same since they started up in August 1981. (VH-1 also used that font when they started up... I think they finally changed sometime in the mid-1990's?).
