Whether or not you're embarrased to admit it, it was the jam and still is.

I remembered seeing the video for this song on VH1's "Pop-Up Video"... Wasn't him a one-hit wonder? I think I still remember what the chorus sounds like... "Rico... Suave..."

One of the local morning show teams here occasionally makes fun of this song, only they seem to think that "Rico Suave" was also the artist's name...

awful, total rubbish! this is where my age difference takes hold, when this came out i was already in late 20s and listening to real rap music instead of this and Vanilla Ice. He was in some movies I remember, I think "Money Can't Buy You Love" where Patrick Dempsey plays some dork trying to win a hot girl with some cash and great gangsta flick "Colors" that had one time supersex toy Maria Conchita Alonso in it!

The only thing I liked were the girls with the big hair in the video.

The only thing I liked were the girls with the big hair in the video. Are you talking about those girls who tried to touch their heads and rub their tummies at the same time?

I am not embarassed to say I loved this song. It went to #2 on my personal chart. I remember seeing a "Where Are They Now" special with him and he is still in the music business working for some record company.

This was definitely quite a cheesy pleasure for me. I liked this song back then. LOL. I'm not afraid to admit it either.

I'm embarassed to admit it, but there was a time when I really liked this song. Now I really don't anymore. It got played way too much.

Rico Suave reached #7 in 1991 for the actor turned rapper who appeared in Colors and Can't Buy Me Love in the late 80's

I must have been too young when "Rico Suave" was new, to realize he was in that movie, 'cause it wasn't until years later that someone told me about that connection. Loved the flick. This song... not so much. ;)

That was too much for me. I did not ever like the song. Complete rubbish, worse than Kevin Federline by far!

Shadoe Stevens' AT40 played a scaled down version of Gerardo's "Rico Suave".

I liked Weird Al Yankovic's parody "Taco Grande" better.

I liked Weird Al Yankovic's parody "Taco Grande" better. I concur. Probably one of his most accurate parodies.

He had one more top 40 hit, "We Want the Funk". I believe it hit the top 20. Yeah, "We Want The Funk" hit #14 on both R&R and Billboard. On the former, it had a very weird chart run. It moved 22-14, partially due to vacuum effect, since there were so many songs leaving the Top 20 that week. But the songs that entered along with "We Want The Funk" proved to be stronger, thus pushing the song back to #20. On Billboard, over that two week period, it moved 24-14-15, also a weird chart move (for that era, anyway).

This song is a guilty pleasure for me as this guy was the Latin equivalent of Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer. So bad it's good. Was played on B96 in my market when it came out.
