"Walk This World" by Heather Nova was a Sure Shot in the fall of 1995 but I don't think it hit the Top 40.

"Dirrty" by Christina Aguilera. You would have thought that following the massive success of her debut album that the first single from Stripped would have been a guaranteed top ten hit.
Of course if it were released today, "Dirrty" would hit the top ten easily due to iTunes downloads in the first few weeks of release.

Um... in case you haven't noticed, we are talking about the Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 here, Banet. And since I was myself a listener back in the day, my little archives say that Erykah Badu's "On & On" was a Sure Shot that never made into the main countdown. Talk about not only a great, but also historically important song, being missed out on!

Looking through my little archives again, two more have popped out.
DIANA KING "I Say A Little Prayer (For You)" (yes, the Bacharach/David written and composed, Dionne Warwick sung, classic, turned into the main song to the soundtrack of My Best Friend's Wedding - AKA the movie that relaunched Julia Roberts's movie career)
MONACO "What Do You Want From Me" (the one single anybody still remembers from - and it's now official - ex-New Order's Peter Hook's short-lived - and not terribly missed - side-project)

In 1994, "Do You Wanna Get Funky" by C&C Music Factory was a Sure Shot. I can't even remember how it went. I don't think it reached the countdown.

I know these Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 sure shot songs failed to make the chart: "Heartache All Over The World" by Elton John (1986) "I Can Take Care of Myself" by Billy Vera (1987 - re-release of the 1981 song that made #39 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart) "Move Your Body" by Junior Senior

^Yeah, I remember the Billy Vera song being the Sure Shot, the weekend of February 7, 1987. Sort of a surprise, since I don't believe the song was officially re-released and if it was, it didn't even make the Hot 100. I was predicting the Sure Shot that week to be REO Speedwagon's "That Ain't Love", since U93 began giving it heavy airplay over the past week.

Besides a couple Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 Sure Shots that didn't make the WT40 chart, there have been a lot of Shadoe Stevens AT40 Sneak Peek songs (Who could remember the AT40 Sneak Peek in a Feb. 1994 show called "Steep" by Lauren Christy that never made the AT40 chart or Billboard Hot 100 at all? Even some AT40 Sneak Peek songs were Christmas related - "All Alone on Christmas" by Darlene Love in 1992, and some Christmas song by Gloria Estefan in 1993 which was the year of the last Christmas for the old AT40 in America) and a lot of Ryan Seacrest AT40 Out of the Box/Breakout songs that never made the AT40 chart at all (The most recent AT40 Breakout that isn't going to make the AT40 chart thanks to its no recurrent rule is "Lip Gloss" by Lil Mama)?

More about this: * The first ever AT40 Sneak Peek during the Shadoe Stevens era to not make the AT40 chart (since it was now using the Radio Monitor chart from Billboard at the time) was "There Will Never Be Another Tonight" by Bryan Adams. * The first ever Ryan Seacrest AT40 Out of the Box/Breakout track to not make the Ryan Seacrest AT40 thanks to its no recurrent rule was "Not Tonight" by Mary J. Blige and Lil Kim.

Some AT40 Out of the Box songs never made dents on the R&R/Mediabase Top 40 like "Hold Me Now" by Wayne Wonder and "Dirty Laundry" by Lisa Marie Presley.

I'm listening to this episode on rick.com. On July 21, 1991 Stevie Wonder's "Gotta Have You" (From Jungle Fever starring Wesley Snipes) missed the top 40. Not only that but it peaked at an appalling #92 on the Hot 100. At least it was #1 on the Urban Airplay charts.

"Sober" by Jennifer Paige, sometime in early 1999. It did hit the R+R Top 50, but not the top 40. (see www2.uta.edu/hunt/charts/jpaige.html)If it made Rick's countdown, it was one of his alterations - were there many rap songs around those weeks? :)

Moby "Body Rock"That reminds me, another Moby misfire was "We Are All Made of Stars" in 2002. How about "Extreme Ways" from the same album (18)?

There was one by Luther Vandross in 1993. It was something like "Heaven Knows." You may be talking about "Little Miracles (Happen Every Day)". It reached #10 on the R&B chart in 1993.

In 1997, "Most Precarious" by Blues Traveler was played as a Sure Shot but I can't remember if it hit the Top 40. It definitely wasn't on Casey's Top 40.

I seem to remember the following songs being Sure Shots in 1989: Robert Palmer -- "Tell Me I'm Not Dreaming" (remake of the Jermaine Jackson song from 1984) I remember Rick playing this song as an extra. In fact, he had Robert Palmer in the studio and he played it.

LM did a great job on Dirty Laundry. It was topical at the time (with MJ) and she was hot.
