I expected great things from these guys once this song hit back in 1997. I've always thought this song was brilliant... The lyrics are open to so many interpretations that I was forced to listen to the tune over and over again. Plus, the instrumental track itself is stellar...
The song was the perfect mix between rock and AC, and was wildly popular back in the day. Their follow-up material has been good and consistent, but I have been waiting for them to top this achievement... That's no easy task.

Excellent song. I've been waiting for them to return myself. Is the new album good? Saw these guys with Counting Crows when they both were hot. One of the best shows I have ever seen.

The sad part is, The Wallflowers HAVE lived up to the brilliance of One Headlight...but hardly anybody knows it. Their follow up album to Bringing Down The Horse, called Breach, was a masterpiece in my opinion and in many fans' opinions too. Unfortunately, many people equate a band's success with the amount of radio play it gets. Not the case -- some of the Wallflowers' best songs were not released as singles. Red Letter Days and the new album Rebel, Sweetheart are both great records too.

I liked the beat and arrangement of this song a lot; but I can't say much for the lyrics. They were a little too depressing - kind of reminiscent of the '60s song "Last Kiss".
Funny thing though - 2 years after "One Headlight" came out, Pearl Jam scored their biggest hit with a cover version of "Last Kiss". Many people who had never heard the original version of "Last Kiss" thought it was a ripoff of "One Headlight". In reality, it could have been the opposite.

This one was inescapable in '97 and '98. And agreed, they are pretty overlooked and sadly are branded as a one-hit wonder. Three Marlenas was underrated.
One Headlight's Billboard Numbers:
Hot 100: DNC (no single) Hot 100 Airplay: #2 Pop: #2 AC: #30 (6 weeks) Hot AC: #1 Mainstream Rock: #1 Modern Rock: #1

One Highlight of the 90s for me! It charted twice on my personal chart (it was popular in the Rock radios in 1996 and then in Pop radios in 1997) and topped the chart both times. I love the sound, darkness, eeriness, lyrics, in-crescendo, vocals. Simply perfect. I haven't heard much of them in the past 5 years or so, though. They had several Top5 songs in my chart: The Difference, Three Marlenas, Heroes and Sleepwalker. Top 20 with 6th Avenue Heartache. And they reached the top again with The Beautiful Side of Somewhere.

I heard this in the store the other day and it came on my shuffle this week.
Still love this just as much as I did when I was a kid.

I was burned out on this for years, but it's really an incredible song. Something very classic about it.

One of the best 90s alternative/modern rock tracks ever. This was played on Q101 and maybe 101.9 the Mix in my market when I was younger.
