I like it. I like "Mercedes Boy" (the single version) better though. Me too. My favorites by her were "Always" and "Love Makes Things Happen", which was a duet with Babyface. Unfortunately, her troubles with TLC kind of led to her exit from the music biz.

I love it. Pebbles was great. This isn't my favorite though. I'd place atleast "Mercedes Boy," "Giving You The Benefit," "Backyard," and "Love Makes Things Happen" ahead of it.

Pebbles to me is one of the best late 80's early 90's divas. Although she couldn't sing like Whitney and the other pop/R&B names of the day, she was effective. "Girlfriend" is just fun and sassy with Johnny Gill adding a 'twist' to the backgound vocals, 'pun intended'. I do prefer "Backyard" over all the other Pebbles single though. She and her cousin Cherelle, another favorite of mine have that soft thing going on.
"Girlfriend's" Billboard peaks: #5 Hot 100 #1 R&B

Great song, but it is so weird to hear it on the radio today (and I have on some lunchtime request specials).

Interesting note: this song was originally intended for Vanessa Williams.

I love this song. I remember when I was little and it would come on TV my mother always used to dance to it. And I vaguely remember she had a on a black catsuit with little colored pebbles on it, or something like that.
I could see it being offered to Vanessa, but I'm glad Pebbles did it because she brought a lot of attitude to the song.

Not her best but pretty good.
I didn't know The Beautiful South included a cover of this in their debut album

Vanessa would have taken it to #1 Pop AND R&B had she recorded it as her debut single. Attachment Deleted

Jam! I roller skated to this on Friday nights for sure.
As much as I loved her debut and its singles, I liked her 2nd album and its singles even more.

This song was written for Vanessa Williams for her debut album, and eventually would be given to Pebbles. If I ever am on the dance floor and I hear this song I will dance. This is a fun song
