Now this is a classic 1990 pop song that I loved. I still hear it all the time on AC stations when I'm in department stores or at restauraunts.
I know the song peaked at #2 on some chart, please fill me in on which chart it is again. It had a slight country kind of sound to it. I remember being upset that it just couldn't make the top spot. I used to love the track a lot.
I'm sure many of you remember this pop tune.

UU-BRU Radio Playlist [red]For Week Ending April 7, 1990[/red] (Rank This Week, Last Week, Artist, Title) 01 01 Jane Child - Don't Wanna Fall In Love 02 ** Madonna - Vogue [blue]03 10 Alannah Myles - Black Velvet[/blue] 04 06 Sinead O'Connor - Nothing Compares 2 U 05 08 Michael Bolton - How Can We Be Lovers 06 07 Cher - Heart Of Stone 07 02 Phil Collins - I Wish It Would Rain Down 08 09 Rod Stewart & Ronald Isley - This Old Heart Of Mine 09 14 Aerosmith - What It Takes 10 11 Bonnie Raitt - Have A Heart Despite a jump from #10 to #3, Alannah Myles failed to climb any higher. After a brief two-week stay, BV began to fall, ultimately ranking at #35 for 1990. www.keystonehighways.com/uubru1990.htmlThere was a second version of BV that was issued to country at the same time. Robin Lee spent two weeks on UU-BRU Radio Playlist peaking at #37 with her version on April 28, 1990. Alannah Myles debut album contains several other great cuts including "Love Is" and "Still Got This Thing". :)

Great song! I still enjoy hearing it today.
As for which chart it peaked at #2 on... it peaked there on CHR/Pop at least.

LOVE it, even though I don't hear it very often
My mom used to love it back when it was new, and I was too young to appreciate it, but now I hear it and it's a great song, everytime I hear it I find myself singing it for hours.
"Black Velvet like a little boy's smile, black velvet, with that slow, Southern style. A new religion that'll bring you down to your knees, black velvet, if you please."

I don't have much to say here other than that I never cared for this song. Chances are if it's a Hot AC staple like this one, I'll have the same opinion. At least the riffs are pretty good, though.

Good song. I love that rocking bass She used a lot of imagery in the lyrics.

I always thought that Melissa Etheridge's "I'm The Only One" borrowed a lot from this song.
BV is so good!

Hearing this on the radio. It's great, but the instrumental sounds identical to that of "I'm The Only One".

^ I've never noticed that before. Weird.
Anyway, this song has burnt out a bit for me due to overplay, but I do enjoy it.

^ I've never noticed that before. Weird. I never paid attention to it before, but playing them both now in my head... yep, it's there. But who honestly thinks she ripped this off? I mean...really.
