#5 Pop/#6 Black hit in 1963, I think this is one of my favorite oldies songs, it's used in movies a lot of course. I like the piano bit "shooby-dooby-dooby-dooby-doo-wop-wop" part.

Yeah: I think this is easily their best song. But their biggest hit was "He's So Fine," which I think sucks.

is One Fine Day a Carole King and Gerry Goffin song? She wrote so many huge songs with him

I love this, it's definitely one of my top five oldies.

Written by Goffin and King; this was a #5 Hot 100 hit for The Chiffons in 1963. In 1980, Carole King released her own version of the song and it peaked at #12 on the Hot 100. It was her last Top 40 hit.
Love this. My favorite by The Chiffons. Love Carole's version too.

I agree, great song. This is one that is was surprised to learn that Carole wrote when I found out a few years ago.

I agree, great song. This is one that is was surprised to learn that Carole wrote when I found out a few years ago. Carole and Gerry over there approve of this thread! Haha. And that happens with a lot of people and a lot of her songs. The instrumental track is part Carole's piano demo with her vocals wiped away. The rumor was she was supposed to sing it and release it, in the same way she had a hit with "It Might as Well Rain Until September" in 1962, but Gerry was very weary of her becoming a singing star and wouldn't let her release any more records. So it was kind of ironic that when she released "Pearls" in 1980, an album that was her singing a bunch of Goffin/King oldies, that "One Fine Day" was the single released and it went on to become a hit.

I agree, great song. This is one that is was surprised to learn that Carole wrote when I found out a few years ago. G&K penned a lot of Brill Building classics at the time, this included.

Carole King's "One Fine Day" in 1980 would become her final top 40 hit.

Both versions are emblematic of superb song craft.

Bumping this in Gerry's honor. I think this was the first of the songs they wrote that I really fell in love with when I was little.

Have always preferred Carole's version. The Chiffons are fine too, but prefer their "He's So Fine".
