Nice. Never been a major fan of Billy Joel, but this would be my favorite record by him. It's incredible how he was able to turn a list of historical references into an insanely infectious pop song.

Worst song he's ever performed. It's seems almost idiotic to name historical references and then just say "we didn't do it" and call it a song.

Last time I heard this song on the radio was either 2007 or 2008. On AT10, Casey's spotlight was "name dropping" and they saved this for last.

Horrible. Without a doubt the worst song he ever made for me.

I remember my American History teacher in High School playing this music video to do an assignment for it.

So cheesy yet so creative at the same time. A guilty pleasure of mine.

31 years ago today, "We Didn't Start the Fire" by Billy Joel scored a second and final week at No.1 on the Hot 100. It was the first single released from his 1989 album, "Storm Front." The song was nominated for a Grammy for Record of the Year but it lost to "Wind Beneath My Wings" by Better Midler. Back then, "Fire" was so massive that one of the teachers at school asked us to look into all the events, people, and such that Joel references on the record. Ah...those were the times! I do love the record but I found the video to be quite ghastly. You can't have it all, I reckon.

Just remembered this played at the grocery store the night before lockdown happened here, while people were kinda panic buying... It's somehow funny considering the message of the song and the current situation happening at that time lmfao

i really like the historical mentions in this song and it is so catchy . this plays often on the oldies station they have on sometimes at my job. it would be interesting if Billy Joel could do an updated version that mentions things that happened from 1989 up until 2023.the original covers about 40 years vs a potential 34 or so years for a sequel.
