This may be the only to song to top Billboard's Hot 100, Modern Rock Tracks chart and Adult Contemporary chart.

Great, great song, IMO this is the best version of it, better than Prince's and the Family's renditions.

This was the best version. I never really cared for all the other renditions.

Amazing, but it's sad that people aren't more aware of Sinead's own material. She's easily up there with the likes of Sarah McLachlan and Sheryl Crow for me. Universal Mother is an AMAZING album...

I love this but I also like the original Family version. Sinead really took this song and made it her own. Even Prince's live version falls flat compared to her's.

Fantastic. She transformed this song. There are only a couple of Prince covers that I love as much, if not more, than the originals.

The video represents an amazing and startlingly intimate performance from Sinead, both as a vocalist and a thespian. And when that lone tear rolls down her cheek...
As Jazzy mentioned, she totally transformed the song, and it's one of those absolute 90's classics that somehow doesn't sound dated today.
I've always loved the line, "All the flowers that you planted, mama / In the back yard / All died when you went away."

I've cried to this song so many times it's a little scary.

Her voice is a little chilling. It forces you to pay attention.
Although the Prince original is OK, it's this version that stands out.

I disliked this song when I was a child, found it annoying but as I've gotten older I've grown to appreciate it a lot.

I still listen to this. Oh man, her voice is haunting. Yeah her voice suits the song perfectly, and I agree no other version measures up. It was just a pairing of a great song with the perfect singer.

Prince for me was hit or miss as an artist but as a writer quite a few covers were really good . Sinead's version was so powerful.
