Ick. I've always found this and Prince as a whole overrated. I do like "1999" and "Raspberry Beret", though.

Pop songs don't get much more epic than this. From the opening guitar to that beat kicking in and those lyrics and the overall delivery. This is my go-to Prince song from my go-to Prince album... and he has several to choose from.

One of the few songs that I would describe as absolutely perfect. Classic. Flawless. One of the greatest songs of all time. Can't say enough about it.

I've always adored this... probably my favorite from Prince. Listening to it as I type this.

Prince sure made a lot of great songs in the 1980s, such as this one, "Let's Go Crazy", "Erotic City", "1999", and so one. If I had to choose, "When Doves Cry" was the best song Prince ever did from the guitar intro to the last part of the song. However, I prefer the album/full version over the radio edit which fades the song shortly after the final chorus. In my market, this was played as an 80s flashback on 100.3, Lite FM 93.9, WGCI, V013, and defunct 103.5. Pretty sure B96 also played it too as they did play several of his 80s hits ("Let's Go Crazy", "Kiss", "Little Red Corvette", etc) as 80s flashbacks when I was younger.

Have to be my favorite from Purple Rain, next to "I Would Die 4 U". Classic song and video.

37 years ago today, His Purple Majesty a.k.a. Prince scored his first of 5 No.1 hit on the Hot 100 Singles chart as "When Doves Cry" started a 5-week run at the top. The song without a bass line was so massive that Billboard named it the biggest hit of 1984. In 2016, after Prince's death, it re-entered the Hot 100 and peaked at No. 8. "Doves" was the first release from the soundtrack to Prince's 1984 film, "Purple Rain." That soundtrack album is a bloody masterpiece!

I remember the very first time I heard this song. You could tell how special this was. Such an incredible song, by far Prince's most iconic work.
