This was the 1st single from her "Amen" album in 1999.
I thought this was a great track, and at the end she is hitting "Mariah" high notes.
I remember reading that when she was starting out, she would perform Mariah Carey and Taylor Dayne songs.
She was cool in my book since then!

This song really didn't do anything significant at pop, but hit it big on the club charts.Β KTU played the Jonathan Peters Radio Edit consistently for about 2 years...the version that ends with Paula, for all intents and purposes, screaming, at the end of the song over an intense drum roll. It's a great track.

That Jonathan Peters remix is amazing. Especially the Extended Mix of it. It's a 14 minute epic that screams for more play.

This song was Paula's first #1 on my MT40 chart, which is saying a lot since her 'This Fire' tracks (like 6 or them) pretty much all went Top 10 but I guess the anticipation for thissong threw it to #1. Either way, I love it! And yeah, I have that Jonathon Peters remix and that's great! I'm not a fan of club mixes but that one was a good one. I put it on a dancemix CD I made.

This sounds like a 70s soul track, I absolutely like this one, in fact it's the only Paula Cole song I like, really.

Stalled at #33 at CHR/Pop. Should've been a much bigger hit.

I remember someone on the Rick Dees show mentioning that it sounded a little like "Love Will Lead You Back" by Taylor Dayne.

Was that one of those deals where Rick played samples of two songs back-to-back that sounded absolutely nothing alike and then asked people to call in and vote on whether the "original" artist had been ripped off?Β (Even though the show had been pre-recorded weeks earlier...)
Back on topic, there was a Jeopardy! question about Paula Cole a few weeks ago and nobody knew it.Β Anybody surprised?

This song is just perfect. It's my favorite Paula song I think... though she has lots that I like. I love the intro and especially the album version... Much later I heard the remix and I agree it's fantastic. The rest of the "Amen" album was not consistent with this song though... I miss Paula's music, though I heard that she's working to release something new soon.

Stalled at #33 at CHR/Pop. Should've been a much bigger hit. Yeah, why couldn't her annoying song "I Don't Wanna Wait" be the one that peaked at #33 and this song be the big one?

Then this song would be the annoying one and you'd be asking the same question with the titles reversed.

^You're probably right. I do remember liking "I Don't Want To Wait" at first - it even charted on my Personal Top 30, peaking at number 14. I got tired of it soon after and I especially hated it when it became the theme from Dawson's Creek, a TV show that I did not like at all.
"I Believe In Love" sounds like the kind of song that I'd get tired of as fast as I did "I Don't Want To Wait". But they played it so seldom that I didn't have a chance to get tired of it.

I'm tired of 'I Don't Want To Wait' too but it is a good song and did really well on my chart! 'I Believe In Love' was her only #1 for me tho.

love it. first saw her when she opened for sarah mclachlan in 1995 in support of her Harbinger album back before she was a thing. she stood there like a force-of-nature one-woman band with random kitchen utensils making music. i was totally. blown. away. and the rest is history. This Fire is a crazy good album. Amen was meh, but IBIL is a keeper.

Some info about the Jonathan Peters remixes. He was commissioned to do the remixes and did the main one based on the album version's vocals. Paula had not been a fan of remixes of her stuff just because she felt her originals were so good (which this one was too) but she loved how the demo of the mix sounded so Jonathan brought her in the studio to completely re-record the vocals which made for a great remix. The main Anthem was programmed by Tony Coluccio. There were additional remixes that were in different styles. The Gentle ones were softer and had programming by Joey Moskowitz and the Smooth ones were programmed by Richard Bush.
