I liked both versions, but the dance version a little bit better. Reminds me of when I heard it in a dance club in Denver in the spring of 1997. :)

It's one of the best renditions of this song so far.

I loved this. It showed the world that Madonna is a serious actress and singer. Oh where has all that talent gone ???

The Miami radio mix was the hit version. AT40 played that version.

It showed the world that Madonna is a serious actress and singer. For once I would agree that Madonna did a marvelous job playing a role, however I think it's no coincidence that Evita is almost devoid of spoken dialogue. Madonna is the supreme diva and this role was perfect for her. That said, I still maintain (as longtime members of the R&R boards may remember) that she is NOT an actress. She can't even play herself convincingly. The contrast in her talent as a singer and lack of same as an actress could not be more stark. Maybe one day a new film version of Jesus Christ Superstar (another outstanding Andrew Lloyd Weber and Tim Rice musical) will be made. The female lead (Mary Magdelene, played by Yvonne Elliman in the beautiful 1973 version) would again be perfect for Madonna. I'd love to hear her sing I Don't Know How To Love Him. As a side note, if you really love the subject song you should seek out the disco version from 1980 by Festival. It's typical disco and grossly overproduced, but the vocal performance of the lead singer (I've long since forgotten her name) more than makes up for it.

I don't like showtunes and even worse is when artists release showtunes to radio and hit the Top 10.

Eh... I don't know. The song was just kind of there.

A friend let me borrow Festival's version a few months ago. It was pretty funny. In fact, it inspired me to get out "Madonna's Greatest Hits Volume 2" and listen to her version again.
I hear that the Carpenters have a version as well. I'd love to hear that one!

The Miami radio mix was the hit version. AT40 played that version. Actually CT40, but we know what ya mean. The week the song debuted in the top 40, though, they played the slow version... thankfully the only time they did.

Sinead O'Connors version was better. It's alright though. Madonna doesn't really have the voice for this kind of song IMO. She can't really 'belt'.

Boring. I liked both versions (remix/original) when they were first released, but now they just bore me to death...especially the original.

It's a great song, but one of the worst-rhyming hits in the Rock Era. That and "Tom's Diner."

Great remix! Kudos to Madonna for bringing a classic showtune to the top 10 --I'm not sure which other artists would have been able to do that.

The remix is really cool and it's also one of the first mp3s I've ever had!

I like the slow version over the fast version, but both are good.

At first, I really loved the slow version and was a little disappointed when more and more stations started playing the upbeat version until the slow version was virtually totally ignored, but then I got to really like it. In fact, when I heard the slow version (on the World Chart Show, I believe), I was like, "Man, this really drags!"
In a nutshell, I like the remix version.

Hmm, I never heard the remix version of the song, but I liked the version I heard on her GHV2 record. Very moving. It's not a song I play very often, though.

It's decent but she's no Julie Covington.

Not to nitpick, but it's not a remix! I wish people woul stop calling it as such. It's an entire brand-new production, with new vocals.

The remix version (which is a sped up version of the original slow song) contains the same lyrics. The only difference is that they say "Evita" several times in the intro and the song omits the lines: Have I said too much? There's nothing more I can think of to say to you. But all you have to do is look at me to know That every word is true Other than that, it's very much the same.
