A 12 inch single and then later an album that spawned a total of three hits:
Rumors (#8/Pop-check urban history on this) Lean On Me (#1/Pop - check urban history on this) Why You Treat Me So Bad* (#39/Pop [do the same as other two])

Here's their Urban history.
Timex Social Club 1986 "Rumors" [#8] 1987 "Thinkin About Ya" [#15]
Club Noveau 1986 "Jealousy" [#8] 1987 "Lean On Me" [#2] 1987 "Situation #9" [#4] 1987 "Why You Treat Me So Bad" [#2] 1988 "Heavy On My Mind" [#42] 1990 "No Friend Of Mine" [#12] 1992 "Oh Happy Day" [#45]
Now on to my comments. I am not much of a fan of Club Nouveau. They have some great instrumentals, as shown by the million songs that sampled "Why You Treat Me So Bad". However, as far as the songs themselves go, they're weak in my book.
"Rumors" by the Timex Social Club on the other hand is a really great track. I've never heard that other single though.

I like "Lean On Me" from Club Nouveau... don't know any of their other stuff, though.

I just listened to "Thinkin About Ya". It sounds like Club Noveau, even moreso than "Rumors". I don't like it.

Thanks for the 411 on Timex Social Club and Club Nouveau's urban history, Josh. I almost forgot about Situation #9, Jeaolousy and Heavy On My Mind among others. I was listening to Why You Treat Me So Bad on my way home from the station last night after running the Arkansas Razorbacks football game on our sister stations. Therefore this topic came up for board discussion amongst us music experts.

i loved the cover of 'lean on me', thought it was a very clever take on the excellent bill withers original. i can't remember any of the other tracks mentioned.
btw, is 'oh happy day' a cover of the old edwin hawkins gospel tune?

Yup....that would be the one from 1969. Big hit for a gospel tune in both the pop (#4) and r&b charts (top 5)--including gospel.

I love CNs debut album, I think "Heavy On My Mind" is an awesome track!! In fact, except for 1 or 2 filler tracks, and "Lean On Me," I love every song on the album. TSC had another hit, I think it was post King/Mcelroy/Foster, that I heard a few times when I was in Wash., DC one weekend, called "Mixed Up World." Wasn't played once in New York. I also remember a novelty track called "Roaches" that was funny. But at least in New York on Kiss-fm and WBLS, this debut album was the Urban radio equivalent of Led Zeppelins IV album.

I also remember a novelty track called "Roaches" that was funny. LOL! I remember that song, by Bobby Jimmy & The Critters. ("I can't go no place, those roaches they would linger/they see my face, they laugh, they flip me off with the middle finger). I also loved the ending, when they start singing, "R-r-raid! R-r-raid! Stops roaches from running around. Stops roaches from running."

I loved "Why You Treat Me So Bad", which I was lucky enough to get the single. "Rumors" was pretty clever, but I rarely like covers of songs as much as the original, and "Lean on Me" was no exception, but it is listenable. I love the original "Oh Happy Day", but I'm glad I never heard the cover. "Jealousy" was the only other of their songs I've heard; kind of similar to "Rumors" as I recall.
