This is an excellent song with a fantastic arrangement, effectively bombastic production, and a powerful vocal performance. I love most of Jim Steinman's work, including a lot of his stuff with Bonnie.

This is such a CLASSIC. JS did a great job here (as good or better than in Making Love... But I prefer TEOTH because of Bonnie's powerful interpretation). This was one of my top songs of the 80s. It was also a big hit in Peru and across Latin America. Actually, it was so popular that Venezuelan singer Lissette recorded a Spanish version that became a huge success in 1985 in our region. Interestingly enough, that version opened the doors to an artist who would later break through in the US too: Jon Secada. He sang the main male vocals but his contribution was as uncredited as Roy Dodd's in Bonnie's version (I love singing the male voice with my girl friends in karaokes ). www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Pc1ZaDRvGY&sns=emIn terms of Bonnie, this is certainly her signature song, but she also had other hits like It's a Heartache (btw I always thought that The Pretenders' I'll Stand by You was inspired by that song) and another favorite of mine, the epic Holding Out for a Hero, which was a #1 song in my personal chart and I still listen to it often (although I think it didn't fit with the FootLoose soundtrack at all!)

It's a killer song. That melody is truly great ("Making Love Out of Nothing At All" has a very similar melody so I can see why someone would confuse the two songs; I love them both!). The male vocal is used to great effect, too.

Great song. In fact the song is bad in all the way, but it's so bad that become good, it's like all the Meat Loaf songs. My favorite part of the song, it's the last part almost at the end; This part is not in all the version of the song. I like the video.

One of my favorite songs from the 80s. I still even listen to the original version and I listen to the cover versions of it.

I love it although Steinman flirts with kitsch and over the top melodrama on this one. Classic by all means and unforgettable. The video on the other hand is like a dreamy horror movie with a sexually repressed teacher who always wanted to molest her students and never got the chance... Or the students are diabolical and force the teacher to become a sexual predator. As a common practice in the 80's the video had not the slightest relation to the song.

I grew up with the 1995 Nikki French cover version and didn't hear the original Bonnie version until much later. This is good.
