UU-BRU Radio Playlist [red]For Week Ending April 11, 1987[/red]
(Rank This Week, Last Week, Artist, Title)
01 02 Aretha Franklin & George Michael - I Knew You Were Waiting 02 01 Tina Turner - What You Get Is What You See 03 03 Patty Smyth - Never Enough 04 07 Kool & The Gang - Stone Love 05 11 George Strait - Ocean Front Property 06 06 Joan Jett & The Blackhearts (The Barbusters) - Light Of Day 07 08 Bangles - Walking Down Your Street 08 04 Linda Ronstadt & James Ingram - Somewhere Out There 09 10 Cyndi Lauper - What's Going On 10 15 Bruce Willis - Young Blood
IKYWW spent 2 weeks at #1, becoming the #7 song of 1987.
I didn't give much credit to George Michael before he teamed up with Aretha Franklin, but IKYWW still sounds as good today as it did in 1987.

A great song indeed! April, 1987 was a good month as fast as #1 songs go. In the first two weeks, Starship's "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" topped the chart and the last half of April saw "I Knew You Were Waiting" at the top. Then, in May it was back to not so good songs on top, but that's a different story. "Waiting" was one of my favorite songs of 1987.

Produced by Narada Michael Walden and hit #5 on the R&B chart. I like it.

Don't like it. If it comes on I probably won't skip it, but it's just never been anywhere close to a favorite of mine by either Aretha or George.

I recently read where George said he wanted to sing it straight because he knew Aretha would vary all over from the melody.
It's cool it won R&B Duo/Group at the Grammys, but to me it's really more of a pop song. The production to me sounds like it influenced the production of MJ's "Black or White."

Pretty run of the mill 80s Corp-Pop, maybe even its height, but it's very well done and delivered.

Love this song. They made a great team. It's sad that they're both gone. 😥

This has grown on me quite a bit listening to it over and over. It's pretty cute!
I, too, can't believe they're both gone. 😥

This is one of my many favorites from both of them. I love how their voices complemented one another.

34 years ago on this date this song topped that charts and became Aretha's 2nd #1 hit and George's first. This also won a grammy and is among the best songs of the 80s and of all time and one of the best collabs of all time.
