Perhaps my favorite song recorded by Heart, written by an outside writer. The live acoustic version on "The Road Home" is awesome. It's not bad, but there's so many Heart singles I prefer over this. As far as their 80's power ballad fluff goes, I definitely prefer "These Dreams". Overall, my favorite Heart song would most likely go to "Straight On" or maybe "Crazy On You".

Heart's career seems to have a very definite dividing line.Β They were "re-invented" in 1985 with their self titled album.Β I believe it was their first of several albums using other writers such as Diane Warren, etc.
It's hard to top their 1970's classics, many became staples of classic rock radio.Β Among those, I favor "Crazy On You", "Straight On" and "Barracuda".
Their post 1985 songs seemed to be tailor made for MTV and Top 40 radio.Β As I mentioned before "Alone" is my favorite, but I also like "Never" and "Stranded".
In the 1990's they released an "unplugged" LP of their greatest hits of both eras.Β "The Road Home" is among my ten most favorite albums ever.Β I am looking forward to seeing Heart on their new tour.

Are you sure you're only 15 or so? I swear I read your posts half the time and it sounds like me answering. I love "These Dreams" cause I love Nancy's scratchy voice in the chorus. But I have to admit, having grown up to their early stuff, these power pop songs really lost me in the mid 80s, when selling out was a curse, and I really believed it at one time. I also really love "Never" especially the 2nd and 3rd choruses, where the girls chant "Oh Nooooooooooooo" And yeah, the pseudo funk of "Straight On" is just straight out awesome in my opinion. "Barracuda" has just a super kick ass rock riff and that would prolly be my favorite Heart song, although, I have to mention as a dark horse, and purely from a pop stand point, the totally overlooked "How Can I Refuse." This song flopped in the mid 40s before their resurrection and it's a shame, it's a great song IMO.

I like most of Heart's stuff. The lead singer reminds me of Sharon Gless. :) Anyway, my favorite Heart song is "I Didn't Want To Need You" from the summer of 1990.

Awesome song! I love their old rock stuff as well, but this was one of their best 80's songs.
Ann Wilson did an incredible vocal on this.
As for Carrie Underwood doing this, the back up singer on Idol helped make that performance great.
Carrie does not even come close to Ann.

Okay, I love love love Carrie's version of this song, because I find everything about it perfect and after listening to it I just had to listen to the original, and wow this is different. I cannot stand the singer(s) to it. Carrie made this song, but I do see the goodness in this song, I LOVE it.

I love this song. It's my favorite from the new era of Heart. I won't compare old era to new era because it's such a polar opposite.
Me and a good friend worked a shift together in my campus' library coffee shop last fall and we blasted this on every shift, usually after "Edge of Seventeen."

I'm starting to like this now more but only the chorus. I wish Carrie would record this song. It's the best thing she ever did on the show. It would've sold more than "Inside Your Heaven" for sure.

BTW, Carrie Underwood did a GREAT rendition of this song on A.I... maybe someday she'll record it!

Hello everyone! I love the song "Alone", and did enjoy hearing Carrie Underwood sing it during her American idol performances. However, as much as I love Carrie, she really didn't hold a candle to the power of Ann's voice in the 80's.
I grew up listening to Heart in the 70's and saw them in Concert when I was older in the mid 80's. This was right after their re-emergence. I saw them in Seattle, Washington, and they were freakin' awesome! Funnily enough I won the tickets from a radio station in Seattle. I was driving to work in the morning and they had a contest whoever could say the world's hardest toungue twister the best would win the tickets. I don't remember exactly, but they had declared the winner with some lame toungue twister, so I called them and told them, that according to the Guinness Book of World Records, the world's hardest tongue twister is "The sixth sick sheik's sixth sheep's sick". I said it about 5 times and they decided I was right and gave me tickets!! hahahaha.. I loved it.
I had the Dreamboat Annie album when I was a kid and used to listen to it all the time. I LOVED LOVED LOVED "Crazy On You" and "Magic Man". And "Dreamboat Annie" was one of my favorites. The entire Dreamboat Annie Album was a joy to listen to. I haven't put their CD in my player recently, because I'm stuck on some of the up and coming new female artists like Carrie Underwood, Anna Nalick, and my country favorites like Sara Evans, FAith Hill and Shania, but I think I'll give the ol' Heart CD a spin in the morning. Thanks everyone for all of your comments about HEART! They are a terrific Seattle (my home town) export!! Take it easy!

I really enjoy this song and got listening to it after Carrie performed it in AI.
They're going to have that tribute to them in Atlantic City in March, Carrie and a few others will be there!

I love it. My favorite single from Bad Animals. It's right up there with "These Dreams" as being my favorite songs from Heart. The chorus reminds me of a Meat Loaf song with its overdramatics, but to a slightly lesser extent here.
