This is easily my favorite song by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. And that's saying a whole lot because they have a great catalog of fantastic music. It was kind of a new mellower sound for them -- a little bit rock, a little bit R&B, and a little bit bluegrass. Anthony Kedis even puts a little twang in his excellent vocal performance. Cool video too. I was very excited when this clenched the Grammy for Best Rock Song in 2000. And I was even more excited when it set the record for most weeks at #1 on the Modern Rock chart. (Staind and Green Day have since tied the record) In the mid-1990s, I never imagined that these guys would still be pumping out great songs in 2006, but I was dead wrong! Hot 100: #9 Modern Rock: #1(16 weeks) Mainstream Rock: #1(10 weeks) UK: #15

One of their better songs, too.

This song is one of the songs that has the most misheard lyrics, particularly the one that goes "with the birds I share this lonely view".

This song marked the beginning of their true dominance on the alternative format. I remember this shooting straight to the #1 spot there, where it would hold for 16 amazing weeks. Of course, they went on to score two more from the album, the next album, and then finally one from their new one.
However, it's interesting that they could have that much staying power with a true ballad. It's not often nowadays that a band can "come back" with a ballad and truly dominate.

Very nice song, and "Californication" still ranks as my favorite album of theirs since "Blood Sugar Sex Magik".

Never liked the Chili Peppers all that much, and "Scar Tissue" was horrible-sounding IMO.

I found out about Scar Tissue yesterday. This makes me wish I was alive in the 1990s. I found a deep connection with the lyrics, and don't make me mention the well-crafted instrumental that goes along with it. Gives me chills. This song is one of the songs that has the most misheard lyrics, particularly the one that goes "with the birds I share this lonely view". That's true. When I first heard it, I thought it was "the blood I shed in this lonely room" or so - which isn't very far-fetched for a song named Scar Tissue.

An all-time favorite song. Californication is my 5th favorite album of all time. Great times.
