This one came from their second album, Scoundrel Days, the one which marked the point at which American audiences at large started pegging them as, at best, a two-hit wonder band. But as a good chunk here knows, they kept on being fairly successful elsewhere for at least two or three years more, especially in Europe. As for the song itself, it's probably one of their first full-blown experiments with a rockier sound. And quite a successful one at that, I might add. Rhythmically, it's as relentless as it gets, with quite an interesting synth work that manages to bring out some of that darkness that, quite ironically, only that crispy clean 80s production could only muster. On top of that, Morten Harket conveys the relationship-on-the-rocks undercurrent already explicit on the title with a forceful delivery without sounding too OTT. It might have not done s**t in the US. But in Europe, "I've Been Losing You" was quite successful, reaching the Top 10 in at least four different countries, including a #8 placing in the UK. And from what I've gathered, they were also big in South America at that point. Or proof that maybe you don't need the US market that much to be considered big around the world and make a decent living out of that. Look at Robbie Williams, for example...

Does anybody really think you do? It helps but damn, no one market can make or break someone. I like this one but don't love it. I'd be more likely to play "The Sun Always Shine on TV" or "The Living Daylights." That said, "I've Been Losing You" is still pretty cool.

I like a-ha and I like this song. I'm a little surprised it didn't chart in the US. I always figured that "Cry Wolf" was the first single, but I checked Wikipedia and it said "I've Been Losing You" was the first single.
