Great song indeed. It almost brings tears to my eyes. At least the song came straight from an animated motion picture called "An American Tail."
And by the way, you've made an error on the first name. It's James Ingram, not John.

I love this song so much. I can't believe it only hit #9 on the radio that really surprises me.

Pretty song, but I wouldn't want to hear it often.

One of the most overplayed Long Distance Dedications/Request & Dedications on the '90s.

That is strange. R&R tended to favor AC hits back then. I'm suprised it didn't get to #1.

There are 3 open threads on this song. I don't care for it much.

Such a beautiful song from the 1986 movie "An American Tail."
Or as Jeff would say, the good version of Somewhere Out There. ;)

What a sad song :'( Doesn't it remind you of your favorite mouse? (no, not Mickey... the other)

Can't say it reminds me of the other favorite mouse as I didn't see the movie.Β It has become one of those timeless classic songs.Β I don't think everyone thinks of American Tail when they hear the song.

Talk about being versatile, this duet peaked at #2 while Linda Ronstadt was putting out the Trio CD with Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris and then Ronstadt put out a Spanish CD called Canciones de mi Padre.

Why didn't Linda perform this at the Oscars?
I didn't know The Jets did a cover:
