Before there was "I'm A Slave 4 U" and " Dirrty"... there was "I Wanna Be Bad"!
At first when I downloaded "I Wanna Be Bad," I was disappointed. It was rather tame. However, once I saw the tantalizing EDITED music video, I was shocked!
Ms. Amanda "Mandah" "Willa Ford" Williford was creating new ground in 2001! Un garcon was I surprised when I saw the UNEDITED music video, where Willa daydreams about giving a guy in the car next to her a lapdance. The video made the song! At the time, it was SHOCKING, pushing the envelope of pop princesses.
The bonafide MTV smash was everywhere... from a hot live performance on Jay Leno to being featured on the soundtrack of "What A Girl Wants" and " Dickie Roberts: Former Child Actor" and the theme park Six Flags.
"I Wanna Be Bad" had simple lyrics, but it brought out the nasty, forbidden side of us. With a rap from Royce Da 5'9" asking Willa if she wants Eminem, this track was naughty!
Good thing Willa didn't conform to the label's expectations to change the lyrics to "I Wanna Be Glad."
Thank you Willa Ford for paving the way for Britney and Christina! Without "I Wanna Be Bad," they wouldn't have had notes to copy off of.

The song was kind of bland, but I liked it.

I liked it a lot 'cos it was bad in a good way.
It was, appropriately enough, #69 on my year end chart for 2001.

I used to love this song to death. This was a great tune by Willa. It was very poppy.
I also liked ''Did Ya Understand That,'' but unfortunately that one didn't go anywhere.

It was not ok. I can't think of many songs that are worse than this.

Well she really did succeed at being bad in a bad way, although it is my opinion. I agree with crash46 about how bad it is. It's very stupid, about the same crap level as "Summergirls" by LFO. One of the 10 worst songs of 2001.

It was so bland. At the time I thought it was like she asked for a teen pop song and they spit that out.

I remember being in Florida and this was huge, because she hails from Tampa, and we visit St. Petersburg. 93.3 FLZ played it to death, and they had already begun playing 'Did Ya Understand That', which I never really got into.
it was a really catchy song, I liked it. I didn't know that was Royce Da 5'9" until he released his own song a few months later, and I put two and two together.

I first downloaded it in early-early 2000, when she was still going by Mandah and was on MCA Records, and I thought it sucked. It sounded so boring in its 96 kbps format! Then I saw the video and fell in love with it. I was obsessed at the time! (Sort of like your story, Mineable.)

I really like this song a lot. Actually I think it's the video that got me into it. I would really like one nite with Willa, if that can be arranged...

Thank you Willa Ford for paving the way for Britney and Christina! Without "I Wanna Be Bad," they wouldn't have had notes to copy off of. I'm sure they would've gone on their respective career paths, regardless of Willa's recording career. Willa probably didn't cause so much as a ripple as to what Britney and Christina were already scheming at the time. This song was terrible. Willa was/is so shameless, too. She's just another cog in the "pop-slut" machine. As has always been my problem with this song: Don't make a song about wanting to be bad; just be bad and shut up already.

Can't get enough of this song. Pity this didn't go Top 10 (it came so close...#11).

It's a novelty song. It's not bad, but it isn't good either.

Quick question about this track:
If any of you are in the NYC area, do you remember what version Z100 played of this song? Did it just have Willa's vocals or did the "Willa Willa Willa what you want" rap part get radio play as well? Or did every radio station just play the rap part? I can't remember.
