The intro vocals on the album version are one of the reasons why I love Janet so much.

That quiet storm suite at the end of this album is FLAWLESS. This is gorgeous. The production, the strings, the melody, her vocal, the background vocals. Perfect.

Sorry to bump but she deserves more credit for the incredible vocal layering in her catalog but especially on this.

"Rhythm Nation" album as a whole sound a bit overcooked, "Control" was raw janet and fresh jamlewis, "Janet" album brought back some rawness of "Control". Even if "Come Back" is a great ballad, it sounds a bit too sweet eventually and all Jamlewis tricks are being used here for a hundred times after the same "Human" or "Tender Love".

Although I wasn't a fan of ballads/love songs, I always loved this song and considered it the best ballad she ever did. Got loads of airplay on B96, WGCI, and the 3 AC/Hot AC stations (93.9, 101.9, and 100.3) in my market in 1990. I like the version that was in her Design of a Decade/Greatest Hits CD version better though.

This was blocked from #1 on the Hot 100 by "Vision of Love".
This is one of my favourite Janet ballads, and favourite Janet songs period. Her vocal is lush yet understated. The production is insanely good. A+.
The Japanese remix CD is now available to stream on Spotify. The single/45 version was the 7'' I'm Beggin' You Mix.
