I like Telling Stories much better, and of course, Fast Car is an American Classic.

I love "Give Me One Reason". :) oh God me too, there was another track from her first album that was a hit that I loved too, don't remember the name though. They dedicated a segment on the new VH1 mini-series 'Black in the 80s: Def Jams', check it out.

One of the most grossly overplayed hits of the 1990s; ranks up there with "I Love You Always Forever" and "Change The World". And whaddya know, all three songs were from 1996! That must have been the year of the overplayed songs. Man, no wonder that year sucked so much...

It's okay. "Fast Car" is infinitely better.

I love this one back then.
My favorite from her is most probably Talkin' About A Revolution.

Love this! It's soo old school bluesy.
It seems kinda odd comparing this and Fast Car, though... even if they are both done by Tracy Chapman.

This song has always annoyed me I remember being really pissed when it knocked a song I liked out of the #1 spot on AT40 (for some reason, I think the song was Seal's "Kiss From A Rose," but I'm not sure).

Hootie & The Blowfish - "Only Wanna Be With You" Ew. That would have made me mad.

I was the one that was mad that "Give Me One Reason" knocked "Because You Loved Me" out of the top. The latter song I hate and the former, I still love a lot, despite its gross overplay at AC radio (where it spent seventeen weeks on top)

who would have ever thought Tracy Chapman would have had another huge hit after Fast Car. It took me a while to like Give Me One Reason, but it's a good song. I'll change it if it comes on the radio. I wouldn't change the station if Fast Car came on though-

This is one of the most overrated songs in the history of Pop music, IMHO... I never could get into this... On the other hand, I absoultely LOVED "Fast Car"... that one never gets old...

I hated this when it was out. I remember my sister promised me it wouldn't get to #1.... but it did and I was so disappointed. Now I love it!

I've always really liked this song and its tongue-in-cheek humor. Very nice track.

One of the best songs of the 90s. The instrumental itself is classic!

Now listen... I LOVE Tracy. And I recognize that it's technically a really good song, and understand its appeal. And my feelings may be partly because of how gigantic and overplayed this song was at the time, but I cannot with it. The bluesy sound works for her, she nails it, but it's just not my thing relative to the rest of her discography of songs. I'm emotionally detached from it from beginning to end. It's very nice custom vintage velvet wallpaper.
