My 3rd favorite sade track... i wasnt even born when this came out so would love to know how big the song was. I believe it was a smash hit, everybody knew and liked this song. When i was a kid i knew about the song smooth operator but not bout sade lol... its like those songs that are more famous than the artist. Obviously sade is no one hit wonder, but this is the kind of song that one hit wonders will always be remembered by. Sadly a lot of people dont know about other sade songs. They miss out on a whole world of amazing music.

Yeah, this was huge at the time. I remember my mom used to tape the daytime soap "Guiding Light" and this song was used quite a bit as sort of "theme" music for one of the subplots.
Peaked at #5 on both the Hot 100 and Hot Black Singles charts.

Gotta check out the Extended Smooth Jazz version of this with the hot instrumentals at the end. Incredible...

What r u talking about, "Sweetest Taboo" was SO bigger than 'SO'. And what about 'Your Love Is King.' People KNOW Grammy-award-winners Sade...Although they think Adu is the only member sometimes, I'll give you that. Another Cascada scenario and Blondie, when people think that the front-woman is a singer and not part of a band/team.

Personally i love sweetest taboo more than smooth op. But wasnt smooth op bigger in terms of worldwide reach and impact and how its still remembered. Although i believe sweetest taboo was a smash hit too

I love this song. While I do like other Sade songs, no other song of her will top this.

I never really cared for this song. However I can tolerate it for it's not a bad song, just a bit boring due to heavy airplay. I liked the rest of the Diamond Life album. Much of the songs that were not singles were the better ones anyway, thanks to my dad for spinning the album constantly on road trips!

Cherish The Day and Sweetest Taboo may have been bigger hits but IMO Smooth Operator is by far her most memorable. I think it's just a better song, all around. I love most anything Sade does, though. Incredibly haunting voice.

Ive been playing this song so much these days, its like the first few days of when i got obsessed with this song. What does everyone think of this song? Itll be nice to know whatever ppl think of this song and what comes to their mind. I just love this song, its back to being my favorite sade track, more than sweetest taboo and no ordinary love.

I like the spoken intro that was left off the single and the video.

The title of this song would be exactly what I would describe her to be as a singer....

Another Cascada scenario and Blondie, when people think that the front-woman is a singer and not part of a band/team. For a long time I thought that Sandra was just a solo female singer, but they are actually a band! They are German musicians known for European hits such as "Everlasting Love" & "Maria Magdelena".

Love this song, not my fave by them though. And I agree Sade is very well known because of quite a few hits. Almost anything Sade does is CLASSIC.

The instrumental is flawless and so is Sade's smooth vocal. Another classic!

This is, without question, in my top ten songs of all-time. FLAWLESS. Perfect blend of jazz, R&B and pop.
Long live Sade, seriously.

One of Sade's best songs and one of the best 80s R&B songs. When I was younger, I often heard this on defunct smooth jazz WNUA 95.5 and on the AC stations (lite fm 93.5 and 100.3) and possible V103 too. music video www.youtube.com/watch?v=4TYv2PhG89A
