A US #1 in 1987 for the British Pop/New Wave princess.
I like it, but much prefer her later hits such as 'You came' 'never trust a stranger' and 'Love is holy'

It's one of the first songs that comes to mind when I think of an 80's song, great song!

I hear this song about every other day on the radio here. It's a good song. I'm surprise it was a #1 hit. I just didn't think it would go that high.

I've always though that a punk cover would suit this song.

I've always though that a punk cover would suit this song. It's not punk, but if you got nothing to DL and you wanna know what psychedelic rock is, the New York act Vanilla Fudge had a top 10 hit with this in 1968 in a totally slowed down, loud! bastardized version that sounds so amatuerish and unprofessional that it works!! their debut album had the beatles "ticket to ride" and Curtis mayfield's "people get ready" done up in the same style.

I never liked this or Kylies Locomotion remake, but I dug Kim Wilde's underrated song "Kids In America" which is a lot more popular now because of 80s dance parties and 80s mix shows than it was when it first came out.

I listened to it. It's not bad. I still want someone to do an upbeat rock cover. ;)

Horrible version after hearing the wonderful and totally contrasting versions by the Supremes and Vanilla Fudge. Both are outstanding classics, and Vanilla Fudge shows (one way) how songs should be remade. Thought "Kids in America" was a good song. Couldn't stand Kylie's "Locomotion" (or Grand Funk's for that matter), but I wasn't a huge fan of the original by Little Eva, either. The covers were just worse. The Tommy James and the Shondells songs, "I Think We're Alone Now" and "Mony Mony", that I think both reached #1 around that time, were also terrible compared to the originals. Tommy James was way ahead of his time. Listen to "Crimson & Clover", "Sweet Cherry Wine", and "Crystal Blue Persuasion", for example.

Someone else remembers Vanilla Fudge and Tommy James LOL!! I used to love TJ when I was a young'n, "Crimson and Clover" was psychedelic pop music, not hard enough to be tossed in with Iron Butterfly or VF but not schmaltz like the Association. In fact, I loved the original C&C so much that when Joan Jett did it I refused to accept her version, but I gotta admit, listening to it many times a few years ago, hers was exactly what I should have liked about their version, sloppy and amatuerish, like a punk band playing in a smoky club with 20 people. kinda like ataris "boys of summer." and i really likes jetts version now.

Looks like I was real early with this song....probably alot of MTV play. One of my favorites of that time, but it didn't age well for me. Just tolerable now. It was my #1 for 1987 by a wide margin spending only 4 weeks at the top but 20 weeks in the top 10.

Yes, this is the song that came to mind when I read the title.
There has been a remake of this recently, correct?

It was a really nice ballad by her. She only charted with a couple of songs for me including "Read My Lips" which went to #1 for me.
Looks like I don't have that quote thing down yet..lol

Loved this! I prefer the Extended W.C.H. Mix version which stays true to the album version but makes it harder. It has more energy than Ian Levine's Extended Mix which I felt was too repetitive with those certain effects being looped throughout it.

One of my all time faves, not just the 80s. I like this more than the original or any other version as it gave the song the edge and the energy it needed, plus i totally love the angry chick vibe.
