Thanks to busyboy I decided to make a topic of my own with he biggest hit ever. Back in 1987 this was huge across Europe before it became a huge summer smash in the UK. I thought that the woman was 12 at the time, evidently she was a bit older. I read the lyrics in English in the British publication called Smash Hits and I found that it's not a fun little pop song it's about Joe and what he does while he driving that cab, not going anywhere, as she mentions in the song. That's all I can remember...

I recently discovered this song through an updated remix Offer Nissim did using the album version. It's such an unusual song. I like it though. I saw something similar to what you were mentioning about how this song is about something else: It's sort of a strange song for a 13-year-old to sing, even though the lyrics were rewritten to be more appropriate for her age. It's a profile of Joe, who knows where all the little bars are, where all the Algerians hangout. He's got a thing for rum, Latin music, and his sax, and dreams of going to the Amazon.

I was 7 at the time, I remember it being played in the summer of 1987 but I didn't care much for it. If it had been released later I would have probably liked it, it's kind of a missed song on me.
