I've never been a Bruce Springsteen fan and this is the only song I like by him, but I love it. It gave him his first Top 10 hit. I realize it's not one of his best lyrical works or anything, but it has that Phil Spector wall of sound vibe to it which makes it impossible for me not to like it. It remains one of his biggest hits.

If Columbia or Bruce had wanted to, this album could have been BITUSA in terms of hits. But there were only 2 single releases I think, this and "Fade Away." At least 10 of the tracks were big rock radio releases that could have made it onto pop. If you like the production on this Josh, you may actually like "Cadillac Ranch," "Sherry Darling," "I'm A Rocker" and "Ramrod."
Personal fave of mine from this album (The River) is "Point Blank," "The River" and "Independence Day."

I love this song... I was only 9 when it came out, and loved it immediately.

I liked this song a lot. It's his biggest hit before his heydey in the mid-1980s.
I also think that it's one of the best songs he ever put out. I also liked "My Hometown".

I liked most of Bruce's rock and pop songs, but I didn't care for too many of his ballads. He's just not meant for crooning.
"Hungry Heart" was the 1st taste of Springsteen I got when it came out in 1980. Loved it then, and I still think it's one of his best songs ever.

It's my second favorite Bruce Springsteen song, after "Streets of Philadelphia." I love how it's one of the few songs he sings in a fuller, upper register. This has that sweet, catchy effervescence of an 60's pop song, I just love it for that. That chorus!
