This song was cool! The lyrics are a little dumb, but I still liked it.

Classic fun pop. Lolly's version was actually pretty good. It got to #4 in the UK in 1999.

My Hot AC station played this song this week... it was weird. I was thinking of creating a topic about it as well.

Lolly's version was actually pretty good. It got to #4 in the UK in 1999. Lolly's was alright... I quite liked B*Witched's version which was a single in the US to promote their "All That" tour for 2000. Also, B*Witched's version was prominently used in the movie and soundtrack of "Bring It On."

I always think of Beavis and Butt-head making fun of the video. ;)
Weird Al had a parody called "Ricky."

That was my first exposure to this: when Beavis and Butt-head watched it and changed the channel on it.
I thought: "This song is lame and this is the dumbest, most painfully embarrassing music video I've ever seen." Who is it?
Then come to find out a couple years later, it was "Mickey" by Toni Basil.
They watched a lot of popular '80's videos, that for the most part, I just thought were obscure. Heck, they watched so much obscure stuff anyway, why should those be any different. I had a lot of initial exposures to '80's songs/groups from watching Beavis and Butt-head. Too bad the videos aren't on the home DVDs. Those were often the best parts of the show.

Nitty uses this song as the sample in his latest "Hey Bitty."

A guilty pleasure of mine. I used to love this song, but as I grew older, it was embarassing. I'll never forgive that damn radio station in Chicago for playing it back in 1986 as our choir class was on our way back from Great America. The girls started screaming when it started and they sang along at the top of their lungs.

I thought this song was okay. I originally heard this song at a school dance a few years ago. At that time, one of the record labels issued new remixes of the song. That's how I got intrduced to the song. I then heard the original on VH1's "100 Greatest One Hit Wonders".

I recently found out that Toni Basil was over 40 years old when this song came out. Who would have guessed?

I recently found out that Toni Basil was over 40 years old when this song came out. Who would have guessed? From the looks of things, I'd guess most of the cheerleaders in the video were pushing middle-age.

Well, it's been ages since I saw the video. However, you have to admit this song does not sound like a 40 year old singing.

Loved this song. I recently watched "Bring It On" and was so happy to hear it at the end with all the cast dancing to it. I saw an interview where Toni said she'd gladly put on the cheerleading uniform and sing that song again. Personally, I'd love to see that.

Horrible and ultra-cheesy. One of my least favorite 80s hits. The only thing memorable about this song is the Cheerleader music video. music video www.youtube.com/watch?v=0aqLwHP4y6Q

40 years ago this week, Mickey debuted at #83 on the September 4, 1982 Billboard Hot 100.
