This is a true classic from 1986.
This song made me a fan of his. It hit #1 in 1986, and it is definitely one of my favorite 80's songs.
Classic! It also won the Grammy for Record Of The Year.

I like it a lot. Love Chaka Khan's vocals in the chorus eventhough she gets no credit.

I like this, but he really got on my shit list when he wrote a song for Michelob and then decided it was so good he put it on his album. Not a good thing IMHO...

This song was OK when it first came out, but then it got way, way overplayed and is still quite overdone on Gold-based AC stations.
I liked the follow-up, "Freedom Overspill", though.

I hear this on AC radio it seems like at least once a day.

Michelob approached him, the song was already out. It was the 2nd single after "Roll With It". The song was "Don't you know what the night can do".

I've heard that he lost quite a few fans when the song was put in the Michelob commercial. So needless to say, stevie nice, you're not the only one.
This song is really good, but "Roll With It" is better.[/font]

I love it.
My stepdad thought he was singing "Bring me a tower of love".

I love it. It's probably my favorite by him. Chaka steals the show!

I love it. It's probably my favorite by him. Chaka steals the show! I agree that Chaka steals it, but I don't think there was much there worth stealing. Winwood's output since 'Arc Of A Diver' has been mediocre IMO. He was a musical genius in his youth, and comparisons of his work then to later makes music like this sound like fluff, at least to me.

I really like this song, my favorite from Steve Winwood (not like a know a whole of others from him to begin with). However, my liking of this goes up and down frequently because I feel like I hear it too much. A 20 year old song should still not be heard almost everyday on the radio, I don't even hear "Run It" everyday and I thought that was overplayed!

Chaka also did the vocal arrangements for "Higher Love"!

It's OK, but I didn't think it was #1 material. This song was also the first time I ever heard of Steve Winwood, as I had no knowledge of his previous material, both solo and as a member of Blind Faith and Traffic.

Coco's Chaka stanning reminded me of this. One of the greatest tracks of the 80s imo.
I think I remember reading that she did not want to be credited on this because she had a project coming out at the same time as well and didn't want to be competing with herself.

Chaka really elevates this song a lot, but then again she is my favorite vocalist ever so my sentiments shouldn't be surprising. This is totally a product of the 80s to the core and all, but a classic nonetheless.

Those royalty checks are hitting for Steve and Will Jennings this year.

"Higher Love" is one of the best records to come out of the 80s. Having Chaka Khan infusing soul to "Higher Love" is what makes this record perfect to me. Steve Winwood's "Back in the High Life" is a brilliant album.

This is okay but I prefer his other big hit "Roll With It".
