Her best album IMO!!! I love every song on the CD, even her rendition of Open Arms (I hate the original!) I wish Mariah was still making music of this quality.

The Daydream CD was Mariah's best IMO, but her quality of music started to decline around the time "Honey" was released as a single in 1997. From there, she seemed to go more "ghetto".

Mariah's 5th studio album was released on October 3rd, 1995. It spawned 3 #1 hits (including the #1 Hot 100 debuts 'Fantasy' and 'One Sweet Day' -the longest running #1 single in history- and 'Always Be My Baby') and an additional top 10 airplay hit in the US ('Forever'). It is still Mariah's best selling in the US album with a Diamond certification by the RIAA and WW sales of 25 million copies. The album is one of Mariah's best received albums by the critics and was mostly praised for the vocal performances and the more R&B-leaning sound. The album and its singles were collectively nominated for 6 awards at the 1996 Grammys. It is my personal #1 favorite Mariah album

It's definitely one of Mariah's better albums and includes some of her very best songs. Such a shame "Slipping Away" wasn't included in the end.

My second favorite Mariah album. Perfect balance of pop and R&B. As much as Mariah loves it, the only song I could really do without is 'Underneath the Stars', and maybe 'When I Saw You'. The rest are amazing, even 'Open Arms'. :kii:
I can't believe they stopped after three singles. If 'Forever' had a commercial release, it would have easily gone top five. 'Long Ago' could have been a good single, too.
'Looking In' is underrated. Y/Y?

I think they were trying to extend her #1 streak. They didnt release a single for Butterfly either because there is no way it would have ousted Candle in the Wind or probably not even You Make Me Wanna. She got 5 consecutive #1s from Fantasy to My All.

"Fantasy" and "Always Be My Baby" are some of her very best singles, and "Underneath The Stars" is a gem but there is some really terrible schlocky adult contemporary material on this album like "When I Saw You" and her cover of "Open Arms". For that reason I think this album is way overrated.

I loved the vocals on this album. I regularly hear all of the singles from Daydream on the radio (bar 'Underneath the Stars' ofc).
I agree that 'Slipping Away' should have made the tracklist, it's one of my favorites. Oh and 'Looking In' is absolutely stellar.

Her best album by far.
Fantasy slays other gorls' entire careers.

I always consider this Mairah's goodbye to pop album. It may have to do mostly with the cover, but I always saw this as a kinda pop album with a dark hue to all the songs. But this was Mariah's intro to the sexy mid-tempo with Underneath the Stars and Melt Away. Most of my favorite Mariah songs are her mellow mid-tempos.

I can not express how much I love this album. It's easily my favorite MC record and really showcases her craft (being heavily involved with the arrangements, lyrics as well as being a vocally challanging album). "Melt Away" and "Always Be My Baby" are the two highlights for me. I love her lower register on "Melt Away" and "Always Be My Baby" is not only her most infectious track ever but also my personal favorite. She really did find balance between her more pop leaning earliar work and the urban music that she'd be leaning towards in her later work. I'm hoping that her upcoming record can create the same balance that this record managed to accomplish.

The first CD (I was buying tapes before) I ever bought. I loved this album and it's one of my all time favorites. "I Am Free" is probably my fav song on the album.
