Oh yes! It doesn't get much better than this!
"You just WALK RIGHT IN WALK RIGHT IN!"
Was this really not a hit in the USA? That surprises me, when the good but much weaker "Everybody Everybody" was a smash. Lolleata Holloways vocal on this is just an absolute killer. I'm surprised she doesn't pass out when she sings this!
#1 in the UK for 6 weeks.

I LOVE this song! When I got Black Box's "Dreamland" cassette back in 1991, I knew I'd heard this song before but I didn't know from where. Interestingly, when I got Black Box's "All Mixed Up" on CD about a year later, it was a different woman singing.
It peaked at #39 on the dance chart in 1989.

This coming from someone who goes on a crusade about oversinging when this is one of the most oversung songs ever. It's an excellent song but Black Box used bits and pieces of "Love Sensation" on a couple of their hits. Many other early 90's dance hits also incoroporated elements.

This coming from someone who goes on a crusade about oversinging when this is one of the most oversung songs ever. This is a dance song though. The HILARIOUS oversinging totally suits it. Upbeat songs usually aren't so bad from a bit of belting, hence i love Mariah's "Fantasy" and "Heartbreaker". It's those awful, awful ballads she and Whitney in particular churned out in the 90's that bug me. Ballads are supposed to be emotional, dance songs aren't. So when the big lunged ones take the vocal sledgehammer approach to what is supposed to be a tender love song, it makes me want to puke. When It's on a dance song like this, it makes me want to boogy!

It's a fabulous over-the-top dance track that made Loleatta an even bigger diva. I remember hearing the original version, which really was poor quality and sounded spliced together. Then they re-recorded it and that's the version you hear today. Still sounds great.

Let it be known that the rest of the songs on this album were sung by the amazing Martha Wash.
I loved this one as well!

www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsQRbwjfzpg&search=martha%20washI never saw this video, and I noticed right away that it was a different female vocal on this. The album version had Loleatta Holloway, and this version is sung by someone named Heather Small from M People. BTW, that same drag queen who lip synced to Martha Wash in their other videos, is lip syncing in this video as well. LOL.

Katrin Quinol is NOT a drag queen. She is/was a very popular French model. In the UK, there was a problem with the sample. Originally, Black Box had used the Salsoul Records sample without permission. This is why deConstruction recruited one of their singers (Heather Small was part of the group Hot!House at the time, which was signed to the label) to resing the vocals.

Just recently I've discovered Black Box and I'm fascinated that they already had that dance sound in 1989 that was run into the ground by every major act and one hit wonder during the 1990s...

My least favorite of their big singles. I much prefer the Martha Wash tracks.

So the singer on this was also the same gal who sang "Movin' On up."

Even though this is kind of a pioneering record for what would become expected of early 90s house, it sounds like a parody of that style. It has its good factors, but the vocal is so hilariously jarring and over the top that it's hard to take it seriously.

It's amazing how they took just a few bits and pieces of Loleatta's vocals and constructed this song.

This is the kind of over-the-top European '80s House Dance song I can't help but dance to regardless of where I am. It spent 6 massive weeks at No.1 in the U.K. in 1989 which is why it was surprising to find it in the '90s section. Loleatta Holloway vocals are plain fire!!!

During quarantine, I had the time to go through and actually listen to the different versions that had Loleatta's vocals and some of the re-recordings with Heather Small, and I just felt that Heather's vocals as close as they attempted to copy the inflections of Loleatta's voice were not up to par. She is a great singer, but having her try to emulate the incomparable Loleatta was just not gonna happen.
It made me crazy how some of the different editions of the singles had some versions with Loleatta and other with Heather on the same edition as if they couldn't tell.
My workplace had this on their playlist for a short time this year and it was the Loleatta version and then they swapped it out for one that was sung by someone else. I wonder if they ran into a legal issue?

I prefer the original with the uncredited Loleatta Holloway vocals (which come from the 1980 disco track "Love Sensation") over the re-recorded version that came after Holloway and her label threatened to sue over being uncredited. However, this isn't even my favorite from this act as I prefer "Everybody, Everybody", "I Don't Know Anybody Else", and "Strike It Up" over this.
