Not my favorite of hers... probably not top 10... but good song nonetheless. I'm a fan.

This did something quite interesting leading up to hitting #1 on Hot AC:
1/27: Jumped 5-2. Last week of "I'm the Only One" at #1. Of note is that "Love Will Keep Us Alive" inched backward 2-3 and "You Gotta Be" went 3-4. 2/3: Des'ree leapfrogs both The Eagles and Madonna and spends a week at #1. Madonna and The Eagles stay put, Melissa falls to #5 (also behind "In the House of Stone and Light"). 2/10: The Eagles and Des'ree swap places, Madonna stays put again. 2/17: Madonna finally nabs #1 and stays there for 8 weeks.

I absolutely cannot stand this song, and I usually love Madonna's ballads and most of what she puts out. I found it to be instantly dated, and Babyface's call-and-response thing in the background is like nails on a chalkboard for me. It's practically spoonfed to the listener. If I would pick a ballad that I liked featuring Babyface in the background, it would be Eric Clapton's "Blue Eyes Blue" (a fantastically underrated Diane Warren song)

I believe this song spent multiple weeks at number two behind "Love Will Keep Us Alive" and/or "Believe". But its tenacity was good enough to place it on the Top 30 of the 1990s countdown, along with the number two peaker "Nobody Knows" by the Tony Rick project. That was also in the runner-up spot for many weeks, trying to dislodge "Because You Loved Me" by Celine Dion but, of course, that song was unstoppable.

When I first listened to the Bedtime Stories, I knew this had to be a single.

this was definitely one of those songs everybody liked, both gay and straight. I remember the girls in high school loving this song.

I like it but I don't think it's a classic as suggested in the beginning of the thread.

This song is when I remember (along with You'll See ) as when her vocals became strong and very smooth. Right before Evita. What a sexy video too.

Far superior to her more well-known hits such as Like a Virgin and Like a Prayer.
So much love for this.

It's nice, it's lovely- but, it's not as classic as some of her others. I see I had commented on it back in the day. :) Some of the strings definitely were inspired by this track: www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOHekLZD5i4It also was M's last trip to the R&B top 40 ("Human Nature" reached No. 57 after this single).

I was in the car with my 90 yr old grandmother the other day when this came on the radio.
She said, "I like this song."

I love this! My third favorite from her behind "Frozen" and "Secret".

Watched the video to this last night, and OMG. This is just so incredible. I remember when this hit back in the day and I was in love with it and I still am. It's perfect in every way.

The most famous song on Bedtime Stories, but I frankly prefer the other three singles from it. It is a nice ballad though, but it's a tad adult-contemporary for my general taste.

That's fair, I do prefer 'Secret' to this, but both are incredible, plus 'Human Nature', too. Never was a huge fan of 'Bedtime Story,' though.

The video for this song is quite possibly the hottest she has ever looked IMO.

It definitely helped the AC crowd get into her more (though "I'll Remember" and "Secret" fared well at AC). And then, of course, she released the ballads album. Yes, MikeCheck- the video was "slightly tragic." If that's not what ya meant- maybe you should take the regular-as-of-late anti-Madge sentiment down a notch or two?
