I had pretty much forgotten about this blues diva until recently. Maybe it was all the recent media talk about prominent people with drug addictions that reminded me of her, but for whatever reason I dug up this old album and gave it a spin. I enjoyed hearing the title track so much that I went over to iTunes and bought it.
Like so many great female blues singers, Etta's voice absolutely defies description. She was never in better form than on this huge hit R&B single from 1961. If you're not familiar with her, and especially if you like old R&B records, I urge you to find a copy of this. I promise you won't be disappointed!

Though this isn't her biggest hit, it is definitely her signature song. That's interesting, because her version is actually a cover of a record by Glenn Miller. I've been hearing this song in weddings and commercials forever. I broke down and got a copy of it a couple of years ago (when I was really into 1950s music, for some reason). Very solid song.
I cannot say that I am all that familiar with her catalog, but if it is full of songs like this (and "The Wallflower"), I need to check her out.

This album featured lush orchestration that was out of character for her but I think suited her beautifully. Before you buy anything else, I'd suggest a trip over to iTunes where you can sample scores of other songs by her.

Great song..though I agree there are some better ones by her, just not as widely known.."Trust In Me" for example..
However..I still think Nina Simone is the all time best female blues singer...

This is a classic. One of the greatest love songs ever sung.
Rest in peace Etta.

At Last got to #7 on the Hot 100 in 1960 actually it peaked at #47 . song is such a classic but it did not peak very high. Etta actually had nine songs that peaked higher on the Hot 100.

Such a beautiful song. Glad Billboard gave it the recognition it deserves!
