One of her worst... up there with the "Head Over Heels" singles.

I really liked this song too. It was like nothing she had put out before. It was refreshing although alot of people didn't like it. It definitely clicked with me

This is really a horrid song, but I love it anyway (does that make any sense?).

The weakest single from Spellbound. The title track, "My Foolish Heart", or "Alright Tonight" would all have been better.

God this is horrible. It's also the song I hear most people make fun of her for, the beginning of the end of her career...

I think this is one of the worst songs I have ever heard by a major artist, up there with "Victim Of Love" by Elton John and "Motown Song" by Rod Stewart.

This song is no worse than "Will You Marry Me" or "Promise Of A New Day"

It was pretty corny. I think it peaked at #9 CHR. Too bad they didn't release "Alright Tonight" from Spellbound.

Well, I liked this song when I was 12. I don't think I'd think very highly of it if I heard it today. "Will You Marry Me" was far worse though.
And hey, "Promise Of A New Day" wasn't so bad.

This song wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. But I think it is a helluva lot better than "Promise Of A New Day" & "Will You Marry Me?

I was a huge Paula Abdul fan back then as a teen. I loved many of her songs. She was one of the main reasons why I got into CHR! That's how come my hat will always go off to her.
"Vibeology," was the only song that she released which was rather hideous sounding and unusual for me.
As much as I loved Paula, I forced myself to like "Vibeology," back then, but honestly the song hardly intrigued me. I thought all of her prior songs were so poppy and radio friendly and I could see why it did well at CHR but "Vibeology," was the only song that I just couldn't wholeheartedly get into.
As a die hard Paula fan back then it was a big let down when "Vibeology" was released and even back then at 13, the song signaled a beginning of a downward slump leading to the end of her career and it was! :o :(
Looking back at it now, she should have NEVER released this single! It was quite a weak and mediocre track!

This is how I would grade this list:
1 Knocked Out : A++ (This was probably her best song ever, eventhough I liked "The Way That You Love Me," a little more)
2 The Way That You Love Me A+++ 3 Straight Up A+ 4 Blowing Kisses In The Wind A+ 5 Opposites Attract A- 6 My Love Is For Real B+ 7 Vibeology C 8 Rush Rush A 9 Cold Hearted A+ 10 The Promise Of A New Day A+ 11 Forever Your Girl A+ 12 Ain't Never Gonna Give You Up B- 13 Crazy Cool A+ 14 Will You Marry Me B

Vibeology was ok. Im a big Paula fan but I dont think it was her best. I think most people remember the terrible outfit thing she did when she performed it at the VMAs.
I would rank her singles:
1. My Love Is For Real 2. Straight Up 3. Crazy Cool 4. Cold Hearted 5. Rush Rush 6. Knocked Out 7. Blowing Kisses In The Wind 8. Opposites Attract 9. (It's Just) The Way That You Love Me 10. Vibeology 11. Forever Your Girl 12. Ain't Never Gonna Give You Up 13. The Promise of a New Day 14. Will You Marry Me

I remember back when this song came out, everyone hated it. I quite liked it myself. I actually thought it was a brave single choice, very funky/Prince-like. And it didn't sound like anything else at radio. That said, I didn't like the single/video version. I thought the album version was better.
I still think that the Spellbound album is underrated. Much of it was musically risky, and I respected the fact that Abdul didn't take the easy way out and make a straight-up pop album, and working with the relatively unknown Family Stand (and Prince as well). The album was a success, but it also seemed to be the end of her musical career.

I remember one of the local DJs mispronouncing the title as VIB-ee-ology. I was really embarrassed for him.

"Will You Marry Me?" had just gotten started on the pop chart when I got into pop music full swing (I already owned Forever Your Girl, but music didn't last on me during '90 and '91). As a casual music fan, I knew the singles from Spellbound until the end of '92 when I was watching a video program on network TV (this was before we had cable) and they played the video for "Vibeology." I was like, "Whoa, how come I've never seen/heard this before?" And yeah, it was the worst of all her singles, so it's no wonder. Despite being a Top 10, it didn't even last long enough to make Casey's year-end Top 100.

If this peaked at #9 while Will You Marry Me peaked at #5, then how is releasing this the beginning of the end of her career? I don't understand. (But the fact that I've never heard this or WYMM might play a part. ) I would think that if anything, the fact that My Love is For Real only went to #13 was worse.

She had a nice streak of #1's and once "Vibeology" was released, it went downhill.

Actually, (It's Just) The Way That You Love Me and Blowing Kisses in the Wind peaked at #2 (unless you mean Billboard), but you do make a point with things going downhill upon Vibeology's release. I was just thinking that she had a chance to recover upon this step downward, but two things prevented that: 1) The fact that her third album came three years later. 2) The fact that first single My Love is For Real only peaked at #13.

Blowing Kisses In The Wind did even worse on Billboard. I think it only got up to around #6. Still, I'd have to agree that "Vibeology" was the career-killing single. If "Will You Marry Me" had followed up a single like "Rush Rush" or "Promise Of A New Day", it probably would have been #1 or near #1.

LOL, "Vibeology" didn't kill her career. She was still a major star and Spellbound was considered a resounding success. The thing that killed her career was "My Love Is For Real" and everything associated with the Head Over Heels album.

The thing that killed her career was "My Love Is For Real" and everything associated with the Head Over Heels album. "spellbound" was a successful album but it was still the beginning of the end for her. By the time "my love is for real" came out no1 really cared about her after 3 years off and 15 minutes of fame and everyone knew it. They knew she had nothing left and her success ran its course. "my love is for real" wasnt a very bad song, it was along the lines of alot of other stuff that was released around that, mainly Janets "if" which was released first and was a carbon copy from the intro, to the vocal arrangements, but not even copying Janets style could help her when her time was basically up.
