How did this song do @ Pop radio before that AWFUL remix with Ja Rule was released to radio & video stations?

The original reminds me of a Janet b-side. I like it better than the Ja Rule mix, which started the whole Pop-to-Urban remix trend.

The original is great. The remix sucks. It was a completely different song.

I actually liked the original more than the new urban mix of it. It was a nice little song. It's a shame that the new version was more popular than the original because I never hear the original anymore anywhere.

I loved the remix. The original was rather good, but the remix made it an anthem. The complete opposite for Ain't It Funny. Epic original, disaster of a remix that was painful to hear.

I couldn't understand why this wasn't the second single instead of "Play" at the time. I loved both versions, but I don't really listen to either much anymore. Oddly enough "Play" is probably the single I listen to the most from the J.Lo album at this point, and it was my least favorite of the album's singles at the time.

The remix sucked ass, much prefer the original. MTV Europe played the original here, the remix got far less play, but I guess European audiences always prefer pop over hip hop, especially back then.

The remix was much better. The original has a neat track, but the actual song is kinda weak.

I always thought this should have been the second single off of J. Lo instead of "Play".

The original version is just as good as the Murder Remix.
If I recall, both versions were released around the same time, late June to early July. I didn't know the remix was promoted as such until I saw the original video version. I assumed the remix was for the Hip Hop and R&B stations while the other version was for pop. It didn't take pop stations (or at least mine) long to add it to their playlists.

Her voice is horrible on this song. I like the pre chorus and chorus though.

I've always really liked this (and the remix). The original is probably my favourite Jennifer Lopez song though. Hard to believe that it's 15 years old now.

At the time I was only familiar with the original version because I bought the CD. I didn't listen to top 40 much until 2004ish or so and was not familiar with the remix until a few years later (my commutes in the car were short so I didn't hear a lot of the prior years' hits), so I was a bit puzzled when I read how well "I'm Real" did on the charts just by listening to the original. When I finally heard the remix, I instantly saw why so many liked it. The original is OK, but the remix is in a different league, imo.

Although I am more used to the Murder remix with Ja Rule, I always hated that song. Easily one of my least favorite 2000s songs. I despised Ja Rule back in the 2000s. His voice was so off-putting trying to be the rap version of Barry White doing duets with various R&B/pop singers Also J-Lo caused controversy when she used the N-Word in that song. Although I don't mind most profanity, I have zero tolerance for the N-word (whether the singer/rapper is using it is black, white, Latin, etc).
The original version wins by default.

I already commented on the horrid Ja Rule remix. Just heard the original version on an old 2001 episode of AT40 w/Casey Kasem. The original version has grown on me. I like the sampled being used ("Computer Game" by Yellow Magic Orchestra). If only B96 played this version instead of the Ja Rule version back when I was coming of age. music video (original) www.youtube.com/watch?v=zD2D6phvRRkmusic video (remix w/Ja Rule) www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sjx9oSJDAVQ
